Just back from 8 glorious days at the Poly. I had requested Samoa, 3rd floor and was very disappointed to be told at check-in, no chance, hotel booked at 99% occupancy. They gave us Tokelau, 3rd floor and it turned out to be just wonderful. I couldn't believe how much bigger the rooms were compared to Samoa and Fiji we had stayed in previous years. I have knee arthritis and it was just a little longer walk from the GCH but completely doable. And, this is the first time, every day our wonderful housekeeper, Clara, made towel animals each day. She was generous with tolietries and kept everything so clean. I'd say over-all the resort was very clean, with very little litter any where.

It was hot and we used the volcano pool every afternoon. It was more crowded than any of the other 5 years we have come each September, but still managed to find a spot for our towels.

Captain Cooks was busy, but not impossible and so handy to get a cold drink or yummy dole whip in the afternoon.

This trip was very warm and lots of rain and more crowds at the parks than any other September we have been. I can't imagine what summer is like if it is more crowded and hotter!!

If you have any questions, please ask. The grandkids did activities this time and loved all the crafts and pool games. We will still return to the Poly....it is our favorite.

Thanks for the nice review! I think all of the posters who are concerned over which longhouse to request can learn a lesson from your experience! Each has their advantages.

That said, in 20 years of stays at the Polynesian we've never been assigned "Samoa". So I feel your pain:goodvibes . I guess we'll just have to keep going back!:rotfl2:

Yes, the room was totally refurbished as was our room in Samoa last September. It was just that Tokelau was so much larger. We had lots of room with two nice chairs (one with an ottoman) close to the sliding glass door. There was also room beside the tv drawer console and the daybed that we parked TWO strollers!! The flatscreen tv was great and I especially loved the two lights on the headboards with dimmers. Never had a problem with air conditioning, stayed cool all night. The refrigerator worked fine and kept all the water bottles nice and cold. Oh yes, we did have the nice new fluffy thick towels and what a treat they were. And the bathroom did NOT have that awful loud fan that is motion activated!! I certainly would recommend Tokelau for the larger room if you are traveling with children. The extra room was great!

We were also in Tokelau (3923) in Aug, and we also loved it !! We had requested it (thanx Disers !), along with the 3rd floor. And although we only had towel creatures (not just animals !) on 2 of the 9 nites, it was a great time ! My DW couldn't believe the size of the room !! :thumbsup2

What types of activities did the grandkids enjoy, and how old are they? My daughter will be 9 when we stay there in November.

Ohhh, I'm sooo jealous!! The Poly was my favorite for years, but have not been back since the late '90's. Everytime we visit, I long to stay there again...maybe it is time to treat myself for my 60th birthday visit? Only 4 nights, so it would be wonderful to be back.

Love, love, love Tokelau! The first time we stayed there it was Maui and new - we watch the other 2 new longhouses being built, then tried each one, but went back to Tokelau.

Have always wanted to try Figi, but am spoiled by the larger rooms and easy access to TTC.

Did your room face the garden or quiet pool?
Welcome back!

We will be there in Dec.
There are four of us (DH, DW, DD19 and DS16), would you recommend Tokelau over Fiji?
(assuming I will get a choice)
I have Fiji requested as I wanted to be near all the action, however, I am wondering if the extra sink and bigger room are better for a 7 night stay?

Thanks,
David

Thank you for the great review!! I am heading there in 21 days and can't wait! I am also happy to read that you referred to some nice fluffy towels...so I am guessing they did get the new towels in circulation! Do you have any pictures to share by any chance? What did you room overlook?

I'm back....wishing I was back at the Poly though!! Our grandsons are 9, 7 and 3. The crafts were darling and both boys and girls were doing them in the GCH most afternoons. They made surfer monkeys and native american tee-pee's. One afternoon it was kites by the volcano pool and earlier in the week for a fee you could paint a tiki mask (we arrived too late to do that one). The pool games were very fun...basketball and the duck races a riot. Our boys didn't win any of the duck races, but those that did win, got stuffed ducks for their prize (very cute).

Yes, I think I would choose Tokelau over Fiji just because of the size of the rooms. It really isn't much farther to walk to the pool or GCH than Fiji. We were in the middle of Tokealu (3902 I believe) and I actually could see the fireworks to the right on my balcony thru the palm trees. We did face the quiet pool. It was a busy week and the quiet pool wasn't exactly quiet, but the noise never bothered us.

No pictures I'm afraid. I left that job to my husband and he evidently wasn't interested in pictures of our room or view! The towels were heavenly and housekeeping made wonderful animals out of the fluffy towels.

Any other questions, please feel free to ask. I was very pleased with the condition of the Poly and received aloha's everywhere we went.
Aloha
