Poly Rehab?!?!?

So we are planning a trip for May 2014. It will be a few days at the AKL and 5 days at the Poly, hopefully in the Hawaii.

I was there yeas ago during the last refurb and I have to say, it took away from the magic. When I am paying $800+ a night, I don't want to hear construction and I don't want to see brown walls around the main areas.

So know I hear there is major renovation going on and I am questioning whether to go to the Poly for May 2014.

Can someone let me know what's going on so I know whether I need to think about a new resort.....

This is the schedule for the rehab:
Hawaii Completed

Samoa Completed

Tokelau March 31- May 25

Niue March 3 - May 3

Rarotonga March 3 - May 3

Aotearoa April 21 – June 14

Fiji May 19 – July 5

Tonga May 5 – May 31

Tuvalu June 16 – August 2

Tahiti July 14 – September 13

Rapa Nui August 11 – October 4
These came from Tikiman's pages, which I highly recommend. You look clear for your dates but please be aware that construction will be starting at the end of this year on the Poly DVC so all bets are off for 2014. Though it should be pretty easy to stay away from the construction zone. We are taking our chances and staying in Hawaii at the beginning of December. :thumbsup2

I'm not too sure how easy it will be to avoid the DVC construction as it will be smack in the middle if the resort.

That's what I am afraid of.
Is there any info out there on what the DVC construction will consist of and when I is going to start?

DVC at the Poly will reportedly be on either side of the resort not "smack dab in the middle". Even that is just rumor at this point. Im hoping these rumors are at least partially unfounded and they only put the DVC on one side. Nothing has been officially announced yet.

With BLT complete and TGF under construction, I wondered when the Poly would begin. Anyone know an estimated time of completion?

Called yesterday and was told there is nothing going on at the Poly as far as rehab goes.

There are also rumors that Rapa Nui may not even get refurbished because odds are it'll get totally removed during the DVC construction.

The only info out there is what Tikiman is reporting that he has been told by his "sources" at the Poly. He does qualify everything by saying that everything is subject to change. Last fall he was reporting that the Poly would have a hot tub by this summer but that seems to have been subject to change. ;)

Is what he is reporting about DVC accurate? Your guess is as good as anybody's. He is reporting that DVC construction at the Poly will start "late this year" and that "Phase 1" will be complete in 2015. "Phase 1" apparently would only be the area close to the GF DVC and maybe some refurb of the GCH.

At this point I would not recommend that anyone planning a 2014 vacation assume that there will be DVC construction at the Poly. If the construction should start (remember that Disney has made NO official announcements about any construction at the Poly next year) you would have plenty of time to revise your plans if you thought that whatever construction actually does start would warrant changing to a different resort.

Was there two weeks ago, and was told by our bartender friends that rehab will be happening to the pool starting right after summer... the barefoot bar will be closed, pool to be shut down and rehabed during fall / winter. So may give some insight...

As long as they're done with the pool (or not doing anything to the GCH) by next May.

I have some of the same concerns for the next year. At this point I am working on a back up resort thst will work for us, in case the construction will be too much for us, for the price of the poly I think I would choose to move elsewhere for this next trip rather than be annoyed. I guess we will just have to wait and see what Disney has to say as we get closer, such a bummer.:worried:

Although I wouldn't be thrilled with DVC construction near the current Luau Cove site, that alone wouldn't be a show stopper for me staying at the Poly (especially since I prefer staying on the other side of the resort).

On the other hand, there's no way I'd pay to stay at the Poly if either the Volcano Pool or GCH were out of comission. To me, these two aspects are a HUGE part of the overall Poly experience.
