poly rarotonga question

We just booked our rooms at the poly and needed first floor rooms with transfer benches in the shower and handheld showers to accomodate my mom (no need for wheel in shower though). I was told that that meant that I needed to be in Rarotonga. Which side of the building should I request? Going with four adults and four small kids. Any part of the building to avoid?

Are you sure you weren't told Rapa Nui? There are many accessible rooms there. Some have a roll-in shower while others have a tub with a handheld shower. We've stayed in many such rooms at Rapa Nui and all have been first floor facing the gardens. I would rather not be on the parking lot side of Rapa Nui but we've never been placed there so I don't know if those are accessible rooms or not. We were also shown an accessible room in Tokelau but I think most rooms are in Rapa Nui.

If it is Roratonga - it is a great place, very convenient to the Great Ceremonial House (Captain Cook's) and the volcano pool on one end. There is the laundry and the quiet pool on the other end. We had a first floor room facing the parking lot, but you couldn't see the parking lot due to the beautiful landscaping. We watched the monorail go by and enjoyed our patio in the evening, with the light torches going.

I would request this building again. My sister stayed in Tahiti and it was too long of a walk to the monorail for her and her family.

Raratonga is our favorite and we get it every time we go to the Poly. I would recommend asking for the side facing the quiet pool. A couple of weeks ago we were there and the side facing the monorail had major construction going on. They are building a bus stop and it is a mess and very noisy. Usually monorail view is our favorite but I will be asking for pool view for my next trip until the construction is over with. There are 3 floors. First floors have patios, second floors just have sliders that open to railing, and the 3rd floor has balconies. We get 3rd floor but the elevator, and there is only one per building, is very slow. I did hear a maintenance supervisor saying that Raratonga is going down for rehab in January so I hope it doesn't interfere with your plans.

The cm I booked the room with first said Rapa Nui -- but then changed it to rarotonga because he said that Rapa Nui did not have tubs, but rather roll in showers. I will call again just to confirm that we have what we need and I guess I will ask for the pool side when we check in (in just 10 days!)

I do know that Rapa Nui has acessible rooms with tubs. When we first started getting accessible rooms for our daughter she still was little enough to let me help her with baths. We had several rooms in Rapa Nui that were configured that way. She then moved on to roll-in showers but our last trip this March/April we had adjoining rooms. My DD and our son's girlfriend had a room with a roll-in shower while DH, our sons and I were in a room with a tub with handheld shower with bars.

But perhaps Raratonga has rooms that just have a tub with handheld shower and bars. The ones in Rapa Nui have a different configuration for the sink and water closet....one large room with no partition.

Whichever building you're in, I'm sure you'll have a great time!
