Which longhouse has the shortest walk to the boat to MK?

Which longhouses are completely non smoking vs. smoking optional vs. smoking on the 3rd floor only? I find this really confusing. I know things have changed a little since the rehabs.

Thanks!! :)

The shortest walk to the boat I believe would be Hawaii longhouse.
But to be sure you should check out tikiman's site. He has everything you ever wanted to know about the Polynesian and then some :D
the web address it Http://tikiman2001 .homestead.com/

Great site...
hope this helps

The shortest walk to the boat is Hawaii.

Aotearoa, Fiji, Niue, Rarotonga, Tokelau and Rapa Nui are all non-smoking.

Although Rarotonga is non smoking, it doesn't stop those from smoking on their balcony or patio. We were on the third floor and some guy underneath smoked on the one below us. We couldn't even keep our doors open when he was out there as clouds of smoke came right in to our room. One day my DD wanted to play with her newly acquired bucket and shovel out there so we let her.... with water. She had a field day and it put a major damper on the guy's smoking habit. Needless to say, every time we smelled smoke we let DD play with her bucket and water! LOL!

Skiwee... what building are you requesting this time??? It looks like we'll be there at the same time!!! :) We check in on the 22nd and then move to BCV's on the 27th. :)

I think we all understand the smoking problem. I don’t like it anymore than anyone else but I was just answering the question that was asked. I don’t think every time someone brings up smoking and non-smoking rooms we need to turn the post into a smoking debate. I don’t mean to sound upset it just seems every simple question in here is turning into a big debate. Is everyone supposed to stay out of Rarotonga because someone smoked on the balcony once?

Trust me Terry, I am with you on the issue. I just don’t think it had to do with the original question.

There must be a way we can bring pool hopping into this! ;)

I agree with you, Tikiman. All those wishing to take part in pointless debates about smoking, pool hopping, etc., please start a thread on the debate board.

As for the original question, I would personally recommend Fiji, because it is completely non-smoking and pretty close to the boat dock, and close to the Great Ceremonial House.

I apologies if that sounded harsh. I did not mean it to be. I just think there has been a lot of fighting around here lately and the resort board is not the place to release your tension about them. Maybe I am wrong. I am sure I have voiced my opinion in here a few times myself but lately it has been getting nasty and it usually starts out with a simple question.

I guess even writing this will start the sort of debate I am trying to avoid.

Aloha

Thanks for the recommendation... Fiji is exactly what I was thinking. ;)

It wasn't anything to start a debate. Trust me Steve, I smoke! Just not in or around a non smoking room. I wanted the poster to know that even though it is considered a non smoking room that people will smoke on the balconies and blow into your room. That is a huge factor if you want to request a patio or balcony as the smoke drifts up into the rooms. If you stay in a patio room then it isn't as bad. I wasn't debating anything. I was simply giving the OP some valuable info that might make her think of what she really wants. And personally I thought your post was rather rude and assuming. I had not intention of doing anything more then informing the OP about her options just like you did. If you reread the OP you will see where she asks which longhouses are completely non smoking. Just wanted to inform her that completely non smoking is no guarantee that you won't be smoke free. Was that so wrong? Don't think so!

We won't be at the Poly until 4/29 and will check out 5/8. I just called and extended my trip for one more night! I am going to request the Rarotonga again. It was in the best location for us and we had a great view of the monorail! I've heard some say that the building is kind of run down but it looked fine to us. I saw no dirty bedpsreads, ripped curtains or anything. The place looked wonderful. I can't wait to get back there!

I apologized in my other post and I meant no disrespect. I am not going to apologize twice.

I guess I should limit my own comments. I think it is time to take a break from the DIS for me if my opinion is so offensive.

Please do not fill up TigrlvsPooh with responses to me that are off the subject.

This might be a stupid question, but I'm going to ask anyway. Is it quicker to take the boat or the monorail? Is the Fiji also close to the monorail stop?
Tikiman, don't let someone chase you off the boards. I think many people appreciate your advice! By the way, I just visited your sight and absolutely love it. I'm going to show my husband so he can see how beautiful the hotel is. I'm trying to convince him to stay at Poly rather than WL. I feel like trying a new hotel and Poly seems perfect!

No one is chasing Steve off the board. I too have visited his site numerous times and find it extremely helpful. I just didn't want anyone to think I was attempting to debate smoking as I too smoke. I have stayed at the Poly but have never taken the boat. The monorail is very fast with only one stop at the GF before going to the MK. To me, that would be faster then waiting for a boat and then having to cross the lake.

I disagree with that. I think the boat is faster, especially if you are in a building near the water. The boat leaves MK, stops and the GF and then stops at the Poly... so once you get on at Poly you go straight to MK! :) Very fast. :)

I haven't taken the boat so had no idea it went straight to MK. For some reason I always thought they picked up GF after the Poly. Since you have taken it do you know if they drop off at the GF first on the way back or goes to the Poly first? I guess it would matter what building you are in too. We stayed at Rarotonga which was right next to the GCH and therefore super close to the monorail.

Leaving MK it stops at the GF first, but I still think it's faster than taking the monorail. By the time you wait for the monorail, hope to find a spot, stop at the CR, stop at the TTC, and then get to Poly, it seems long to me. Especially because they're always pausing to let traffic clear. But, if I was in Raratonga then I'd probably do the monorail since it's closer. It just depends on the building you're in.... and also take into account how long the line is for the monorail. They've got 2 boats running to GF and Poly and you'd be surprised how fast they come. ;)

The boat probably takes 5 minutes or so. I haven't timed it but it's pretty fast... it goes straight to MK without stopping.

The monorail can vary. Once you get on you only have one stop at the GF, but sometimes they will hold you there til traffic clears... so it can take longer. But sometimes it just zooms right there. I'd say if you're already near the GCH the monorail is the way to go... but if you're near the water then take the boat. ;) Same goes for the GF... if you are already in the main building then take the monorail... if you're down by the water (Conch key, Boca Chica, etc) then the boat is faster.
