Hi all,

Hoping some Dis'ers can help me out w/ my Poly Questions... :surfweb:

1- If anyone has ever had a room on the 1st floor... Have you ever had a problem w/ those little lizards sneaking in?!??!?

2- I just received the 2008 DVD and when I was watching the video I noticed people on the beach area in the water... Is swimming allowed??? :rotfl2:

3- For all of you that have rented a sea racer or other rental... where can you take it from the Poly??

4- Is it true that you get "leied" when you arrive?? :rolleyes1 or do they just do this on certain days? :rotfl2:

Thanks so much all... :worship:

The Poly is our favorite resort to stay at so I can help you out with this one. We have never had problems with the creepy crawlies, but if you are worried about it just request a room on the second or third floor. My DH prefers the balcony to the patio so that is what we request. While you can enjoy playing on the beach and the hammocks you can not swim in the lake. The pool is wonderful and much cleaner and you can walk in from the beach. You can rent all types of water craft from the Poly. And yes you do receive a lei when you check in. I have a wide variety of colors that I have collected through the years and even have one in my car! Have a wonderful time!

I've had a first floor room twice and each time no problem with lizards sneaking in. I did have a cricket sneak in once but she got scooped up and dumped back outside. :lmao:

2- I just received the 2008 DVD and when I was watching the video I noticed people on the beach area in the water... Is swimming allowed??? :rotfl2:

Absoutely no swimming allowed and yep there's a sign (and some folks do ignore it at their own peril). The beach is beautiful and a prime spot to watch the Wishes fireworks and the electric water parade.

3- For all of you that have rented a sea racer or other rental... where can you take it from the Poly??

Sea Raycers can be rented at the marina at the Poly. The marina is between the Fiji longhouse and the volcano pool.

4- Is it true that you get "leied" when you arrive?? :rolleyes1 or do they just do this on certain days? :rotfl2:

Actually I've gotten "leied" several times during the course of a stay at the Poly. ;) Seriously, you get leis when you check in and sometimes you can get more. I got a few from CMs and a couple from Aunti Kaui when my family and I took pictures with her.

Anake Kaui is amazing! At almost 75 she can out-hula most people I know!

It also always amazes me to think that she lived and grew up in a Hawaii that was part of a monarchy and was around when it became part of the US.

3. You can take the sea racers all over Seven Seas Lagoon and can take them over the "water bridge" near the Contemporary into Bay Lake as far over as Fort Wilderness. There is a large amount of water you can travel over.

4. You do get a lei when you check in although the last time we stayed there it was not given to us with much enthusiasm. I think we just got a tired/uninterested CM. It was just a plastic lei and they just handed them to us - didn't actually put them on.

I remember staying at Poly when you still could swim in the lake. It has been quite some time, however, since the water conditions have become too bad for swimming. The beach is the best area to view the fireworks at MK and watch the Electric Water Pageant.

#1: We've never had a first floor room at the Polynesian, however we did have a little "visitor" in one of our third floor rooms. Here's a picture of him that I took right before my DH picked him up and escorted him downstairs and outside:

He was harmless and probably more scared of us than we were of him. When you see them outside, they'll either run away when they hear you approach, or they'll stop and freeze as you walk past them. Don't be afraid of them :)

#2: People do wade into the water up to their knees, but I never would, and I wouldn't advise anyone to do it. There's talk of bacteria and/or alligators in the shallow waters of Florida; why take the chance?! lol

#3: Like others have said, you can take it all over the Seven Seas Lagoon, and even over into Bay Lake (behind the Contemporary Resort).

#4: Yes you will get "lei-ed" when you check-in. LOL Some people have been disappointed to not receive a lei when they check-in because possibly the CM forgot, or they were out of them, but if you don't get one, just ask. If they forgot, they'll get them for you, and if they're out of them, they'll tell you when you can stop back to get them.

I LOVE the Polynesian and I can't wait for our next trip there in May! I hope you have a wonderful time there!! :sunny:

Seaspray,
When about in May? We are from MA & will be at the Poly also starting May 5. I can't wait. I'm in a very Disney mood today. It's only 29 degrees here today & tomorrow will be a high of 16, but I'm picturing myself walking around AK right now!!!!:lovestruc

1-- I have never had an lizards in our room, but I have had ducks come in. (it was really funny)

2-- I have seen people "wade" in the SSL, but I'm not sure if its allowed. I'm fairly certain you are not supposed to swim in the SSL, then again why would you want to when you have two beautiful pools to choose from?

3-- We have rented sea racers a few times and they are a lot os fun. You are allowed to go pretty much anywhere on SSL or BL. You just can't go near the fairy or boat landings at the TTC and MK. Also there is a water skiing area or parasailing or something like that in one area of BL but they explain all that before you go out. I'ts alot of fun going past the old Discovery Island and River Country, gives you a good WDW history lesson.

4--We have always recieved leis upon arrival at the poly so I assume they always hand them out but I could be wrong.

Thanks all so much for your input! :) This will be our first trip to the Poly (or any deluxe for that matter:rotfl: ) and it will be my DS first trip to Disney. I was originally picking the YC/BC but it was only $100.00 difference and the CM & Dh both talked me into it!!! The more I read about this place the more excited I get! :woohoo:

Who is this Aunt Kaui that I am hearing about?!?!? 75 years old and she can Hula... Im jealous already :rotfl:

ploto quote:- "I'ts alot of fun going past the old Discovery Island and River Country, gives you a good WDW history lesson"-
Does the Cm' give the history lesson:teacher: or should I know something about it before i go??!??? :lmao:

Again, Thanks a million.. We really do appreciate all the responses! It makes our trip that more fun!! :grouphug:

Looks like we'll miss each other by a couple of weeks. Bummer! We won't be arriving until May 18th. I hope you have a wonderful time at the Polynesian! :sunny:

P.S. I've been in a "Disney" mood lately too; in fact, planning a trip to WDW is what gets me through the winter! :cold: lol
