We are considering staying at the Poly. Our last two stays have been at the AKL and we have thouroughly enjoyed it. We are concerned of disappointing our two DS's.

Thanks.

We have stayed at the Poly 3 times, and love it! Two stays were GVC and one was GV! The location is great! We also love the theming, the volcano pool, the restaurants, the monorail, the tiki torches, I could go on and on! I think you will love it! We have stayed at GF, BC, WL, CR, and AKL  and Poly is our favorite!

Don't know your DS's ages but my DS is 8 and loves the Poly. He thinks the volcano pool is awesome although I have to say that I think the slide is a little scary - like a tunnel, very dark. Also, we all love that the pool is zero-entry (we' haven't stayed at AKL yet so I don't know much about that pool). But the other BIG thing we ALL love about the poly is being right on the monorail on one side (just so convenient) and seven seas lagoon on the other (mouse spped boats!). And it's a short walk to TTC, too. And the island theming is the best. It'll feel like you're on vacation somewhere else (and I mean that in a good way).

Also dont know your sons ages, but our 3 ds are older now and we stayed at AKL a few years ago and they hated it!! Mostly due to the fact that we never saw barely an animal from our room. They LOVE the Poly and we just got back again from another great trip May 2nd. They love snacks at captain cooks, fireworks from the beach, volcano pool of course, pool games, hoping on and off the monorail, being able to monorail to the contemporary game room, renting a mouseboat from the marina (need a parent for that one), and their favorite is the arcade challenge, free video games for one hour several times a week.

I have stayed at both and would choose Poly over AKL anytime. Both pools are great, but Poly also has the beach, the castle in the distance and the MONORAIL. My biggest selling point, especially since I have 2 small children. If you can afford Poly, then I would try it, or at least split your stay.

We usually stay at moderates but this last January DH and I decided to splurge. We started at AKL and half way through transfered to the Poly. We had loved Ohanas and Kona Kafe so even though it cost more for the Poly we divided our stay. We wished within a few hours we had just stayed at the AKL. The Poly wasn't worth the money in our opinion. We liked entering the lobby and then going to our room instead of the lobby being a completely separate building. Visually I liked the pool area at AKL better. I liked the set up of the bathroom better at AKL. Also the decor of the rooms. I'm not a big monorail fan and late at night at MK that was the only way home (too cold for the boats). Jammed in with alot of people breathing my air just doesn't do it for me. At least on a bus I feel like there is more control. If you're stuck on a monorail you're stuck. Maybe if it had been warmer with a more tropical feel....although my friend agrees and she was there in the summer. Just don't think it is worth the money.
Bottom line Poly is fun to visit for meals, but I won't stay there again.

We've stayed at both and when we go this year, June, we're staying at the Poly again.

We saw plenty of animals when we stayed at AKL. It was Christmas, so the tree was up and it was beautiful. The people were nice and it's a one of a kind resort. But we really got tired of taking buses everywhere, the rooms were dark and we were clear at the end of one of those lonnnng hallways. Carrying two dead-to-the-world girls after a day at the park got old in a hurry.

We love the theming of the Poly. Relaxing, beautiful, fun. We've had great luck with all of the CM's we've come in contact with. We like the restaraunts better. Monorail, boat, buses - transportation options galore. All kinds of activities. The view is pretty awesome here too.

The girls, 6 and 5, like the Poly a lot better. It's sure a lot easier taking an afternoon break.

This will be the third year in a row for us at the Poly. Once, I wanted to stay at every resort at DW. Now, I think we'll just keep hoping we can stay at the Poly at least once a year. I just bought my first AP, so I'm hoping we might be able to squeeze a couple of trips in this year.

While the Poly isn't my favorite resort to stay at, I'm glad we did check it out. It is my favorite to visit & dine at. We also like to rent water mice there. There are so many positives to it, but the price is a bit steep for what you get.

If you can get a good rate, go for it. I can't see any kids being disappointed with it. The Volcano pool slide is awesome, the monorail is great, the arcade is big & lots of fun. It is certainly FAR more convienent to the Parks than AKL.

I think it's one of the resorts that every WDW lover should try at least once. It's a classic.
