Hi! We're planning an April trip with husband and kids... a short 4 night getaway!

We're DVC members and we've never stayed at Poly or Grand Floridian.

My kids love to swim so we plan on having some pool time. I know they are both on monorail loop, but other than that I don't have an opinion or too much experience with either one.

We've eaten at Captain Cooke's (which was great QS) and had both breakfast and dinner at 1900 Park Fare.

Any opinions would be great!

Thanks!

Since you probably will end up doing both anyway:D, probably doesn't matter in the end. However, if it were me, I will always vote Polynesian--the best theming IMO. I'm sure though that you can't go wrong either way, both are beautiful. The main areas in the GF are just a little too formal for my taste, although the rooms look very cozy. Enjoy your stay!

I always vote Grand Floridian. It's a great family friendly resort with tons of activities for kids, great restaurants, 3 great pools, great service, and the villa rooms are stunning.

We don't find it formal at all. There's always people dressed casually and kids running around. Plus who knows if the construction at the Poly will be completed by then.

What construction is going on at Poly? I thought most of it was finished?

They just started construction on the East Pool. There are still walls up in several places. For what the Poly is charging right now, for me to give them my money, I want a construction free resort.

I was talking to husband and he had a good point. We usually switch off, big trip with family, small trip just us and kids. We should save the VGF for a family trip and get a 1 or 2 bedroom, which Poly doesn't offer (unless you want a bungalow, which is too many points). We may just do Poly this time, for our quick and small trip and do VGF next Fall!

Thanks for the advice!

Just back from Poly. Have also stayed Club Level main building at Grand Floridian several times. We loved Poly but we were staying Club Level and really enjoyed the Club Level lounge and view. If you are not staying club level and if your kids want pool time, I would pick GF. We thought the Poly pool was nothing special (other than the MK view). GF has better pools.

Unless you own at the GF even as a DVC member you will be unlikely to get a studio they are fought over at 11 months by owners much of the year- you might as well plan it when you can get a 1 bedroom that you have a chance of as a non-owner there.
