Poly or GF?

We are currently booked in a standard room at the Poly from May 4-12. I am now questioning my decision and wondering if we should stay at the GF instead in a standard view room. We are a family of 5 (as you can see below), but the youngest doesn't count as a "person." She'll be sleeping in a crib or a PNP in our room. For 3 nights of our trip, my FIL will be joining us in our room. We will need to have a room with a daybed, which I believe both the Poly and the GF have. One of our kids will be sleeping in it and the other will be on the floor or in our bed, so FIL can sleep in the other queen. Not ideal, but necessary to have PopPop join us in Disney. I think that the GF room can have 5 people, right?

We originally chose the Poly b/c it's on the monorail and it IS a pretty resort. We are NOT eating at Ohana's, but I do have a breakfast ADR at Kona on our last morning there. We will be eating dinner at both 1900 Park Fair and Narcoossee during our trip.

I know that you can walk to TTC from the Poly and can take the monorail to MK and Epcot, but I'm not sure about walking anywhere from the GF or other non-bus transportation options besides the monorail access. We will be going to all 4 parks.

We are only spending about 1/2 day at the resort, so extra activities that one resort may have over the other wouldn't really factor into our decision.

DH and I stayed at the Poly for a couple of days before we were married in 2000. It was nice, but I don't think our room was updated. It seemed kind of dark in there, from what I can remember. This didn't stop me from making our new ressie, though. The GCH was beautiful, though.

I think I've laid it all out on the table, so given these factors, which resort would you chose and why? Help! :confused3

We've stayed at both and they are both awesome resorts. But with that said, the Poly has an edge for us over the GF in that we love the tropical atmosphere and we like the volcano pool at the Poly over the beach pool at the GF (and relaxing by the pool is something we do alot ;)). Plus you can't beat watching wishes from the beach and having a short walk back to your room afterwards. We also love that the pool backs up to the beach with a view of the castle off in the distance :cloud9:. The only walking that is available from the GF is along a path to the Poly. While there is a variety of transportation options at the GF with the monorail, boat, or bus, you can't, however, walk to any park from there. Good luck deciding, although you really can't go wrong with either resort as they are both beautiful and you can't beat the locations :).

I have not stayed at GF only used their pool once when the Poly pool was closed. My kids say the slide stinks.:confused3The Gf also has construction going on now. I would go with Poly. Request Tokelau or Tahiti. The rooms are 475 square feet.

We have stayed at both, and I tink that the Poly rooms fit 5 better. Your kids will love it there. Unless your FIL is really big,he could sleep on the daybed and the kids could share the other bed. My six foot/190 pound son slept in the daybed without any probs.

Unfortunately, FIL is 6'4" and overweight. I'm going to guess that he's at least 250, if not more. I doubt he'd fit in the daybed, so that's why we were giving him the queen. Else, he'd get the daybed and the kids would share the queen. It can't be easy, can it? :rotfl2:

I think that we're just going to stay at the Poly after all.

Poly. Love it. I always feel like I should be dressed up in the GF lobby. Poly is a laid-back kinda place.

This. :thumbsup2

I do a ton of business travel, and the GF, although beautiful, always makes me feel like I'm on another corporate trip. The Poly makes me want to grab a fruity drink and lounge by the pool. Even if you're not spending a ton of time at the resort, I think starting and ending your days at the Poly sets you up for a more relaxing vacation, IMHO. :goodvibes

I don't think the daybed would be his best bet!! Any way you choose to sleep, you will love the Poly.

I love the GF! The pools are very nice and they have lots of good dining options. The cast member there are very nice and helpful and the grounds are pretty. We really liked our room and had no complaints. The monorail was good and the buses are pretty reliable in my experience. I have stayed there 3 times and always love to go back. I have only visited the poly once for the dinner show and it also looks like a great resort so I don't think you can make a wrong choice!
