Poly or GF 7 Months Out?

Due to some work schedule issues, we may have to cancel one of our nights on our HHI trip this October. This will leave us some extra points for next year's trip and I'm trying to figure out what I can do with them so that we don't lose them. The original plan was to stay in an AKV value studio (which we love) for 5 nights. I was going to have 3 extra points anyway; if I cancel at HHI, I'll have 17 extra. This will allow me to stay either at the Poly or the GF in a standard studio for 2 nights before transferring to the AKV value studio for 3 nights. I really don't like split stays but won't have enough points to stay at Poly or GF for the full 5 nights. I'm also wondering how hard it would be to get a standard studio at either of these resorts at 7 months out for October. Will these 17 points just be wasted? What are my chances of getting something at either of these resorts?

If it's difficult, my other option is to move the HHI trip up a day. That would be a Saturday so it will cost an extra 9 points. I can use the 3 extra I already have and would have to pay for 6 one-time UY points.

I don't know about the Poly but GF studios in Ocotober at like gold dust and generally run out at 11 months with even owners putting in wait lists.

Poly studios for October this year mostly disappeared promptly by 8:03AM. I don't think any VGF studios were available at 7 months for any of October 2016, but maybe there was a day or two here and there. But that'd be the outside limit of what was there.

You could probably find two days somewhere, and given that VGF and Poly are two of the more expensive resorts be able to cover it from existing points. But that somewhere is more likely to be OKW or Saratoga unless you have fast interest and luck at 8:00AM if the pattern of this October holds for next October. Waitlist might also be your friend, but some people don't like the lack of surety of the waitlist.

7 months out in Oct is difficult anywhere. VGF will be one of the most difficult and depending on Poly sales it may or may not be but tough but because it's larger it will be a better chance.

I just noticed you are planning an AKV value. I hope you own at AKV otherwise that will also be hard. Why not use the extra points and plan an AKV Savannah view?

Yes, I own at AKV and have stayed in the value rooms many times. I enjoy the savannah view rooms but would rather use any extra points to try a different resort.

The poly might be possible if you are on right at 8 am 7 months out (assuming it doesn't sell dramatically between now and March) but VGF probably is a long shot at best. Unfortunately October is extremely competitive based on both last year and this year. The poly routinely books at 8 am every day and VGF is generally already booked with the exception of a random day here or there. Actually all of the studios at near park resorts are very hard to get at 7 months in October.

Well, it sounds like my chances aren't so good. What to do? What to do? I guess I'd be safer just buying the 6 extra points and adding the Saturday night at HHI this fall. Thanks for all your responses.

For October 2017, I would not anticipate improvement from October 2016 and your chances for a VGF studio are likely zero and Poly will see even more unavailability next October than this one. Moreover, be aware that for October 2016, even OKW studios and AKV standard and savanna view studios were unavailable 7 months out a number of dates during the month. Thus, if you anticipate staying at WDW anywhere other than SSR next October, I would suggest you reserve your home resort, such as AKV value, for all the possible dates you want at 11 months out to assure you have a room.

It really depends on if Poly declare the rest of the resort next spring or not. This year, if anything, 7-month availability was helped by the declaration of more points to the association. But it may be a bit before Disney feel a need to declare the last third. Depends how sales are doing, I'd expect. This year's declaration seemed premature, save that given the work at AKL, BCV, VWL and BLT, it was perhaps necessary just to provide sufficient inventory in general.
