My husband & I are going January 13-20 for an anniversary trip. He's never stayed at the Poly, and the last time I stayed there was back in 1990 pre DVC. We had a standard studio booked, and then the announcement came that construction was starting in October, with no monorail access. I know we can walk to the TTC and catch the monorail there. I'm very reluctant to stay now because of wondering if the construction is going to affect the now open Kona, as well as the stores, and with the Poly boat not running to the MK, it makes me even less inclined to stay. We love the whole Wilderness Lodge area, but I was there in July at BRV, and we'll both be there in October at BRV. I switched my Poly reservation to a CCV walk in bathroom studio, we've never stayed in a CCV room, but I feel bad that my husband is disappointed, although he did agree to the switch before I did it. I'm sure we can still switch back to the Poly, just don't know if I should. What are your thoughts?

It‘s sure going to be quiet at the Poly for awhile. We have an early December stay there, and because we have a car, I thought it would be OK, then they announced the monorail work, and I’m concerned and I’m concerned and trying to move. Even SSR is not available for our dates. We are considering staying at VB until our VWL check in date. We do have a stay there before WDW.

Update...I just changed from three nights at Poly to two nights. I think for the two, I can be happy. The Poly has sentimental memories for us, and the night I changed gives us an extra night at VWL, which is another favorite. I am holding.

I hope you thoroughly enjoy where you wind up! :)

Thanks, bobbi! That seems like the perfect combo, the Poly & Wilderness! Maybe I'll do something like that.

I am not a fan of poly rooms. Pool is great and close 2nd to SAB and the lobby is great but the rooms -meh- imo- I would take CCV or if you can get it GF and walk to Poly from there. CCV rooms are beautiful and the resort has a complete laid back theme.

what didn't you like about the Poly DVC studio rooms?

poly rooms are quite dark, and the rooms are okay-but the hallways remind me of motel 6. It is very spread out. I love the lobby and reallly wanted to like the resort itself...but I just could not bring myself to like it there. GFV are really the best of both worlds - elegant resort and walk to poly:)

I know we have stayed lots of times at AKV studios and they seem dark. Didnt know the new poly studios felt dark too, sometimes hard to tell from online pics. Thanks for sharing! We are trying it out soon and will see what we think!

I feel that the less people the better for the anniversary would be fun. We know the hotel portion will be closed. That opportunity doesn’t come along often. It might feel more like a private Polynesian island getaway! Disney is pretty good at walling off portions and keeping things open as they work their magic. By January much will have changed. With those multiple stays at the Lodge and it’s been since 1990..Poly would be a memorable stay.

One more thing to remember about poly...if you plan to use the gym, poly does not have its own gym, it is shared with GFV - which can be a bit of a walk from poly depending on the location of the room. The gym is across the street from the dvc portion of the grand floridian.

Thanks for the feedback, everyone! If a lake view studio opens up, I'm thinking about switching back. My poor husband. I make his head spin with all my going back and forth!
If they are leaving the DVC rooms open it sounds like the resort would be an awesome time to stay. Especially if most of the amenities stay open like the pool and restuarants. I like the QS, Kona and Dole Whips!

Do you think Capt. Cook's and Kona will stay open after construction starts?

I would hope so, we just got back from Copper Creek and I think the hotel side was not open yet. The restaurants were open but the Roaring Fork was mobile order only.

We booked standard and requested Tokelau upper floor. Good Luck and have a great trip! We are at 21 days and counting!

I see your trip is coming up soon, and I can't wait to hear all about it! I'm still undecided, lol. A Poly lake view is open right now, but I can't seem to pull the trigger. I check several times a day on the DVC website, and it comes, and goes, and comes back. I guess there are a few people who are hesitant about staying at the Poly with the refurb. Now they announced that the lobby entrance is closing, and the check in desk being relocated, so that makes me even more nervous about whether the stores, or Kona will be open in January.

we booked std view, not worth the cost of lake view in our opinon. Will post our experience when weare there! My guess though is this stuff will be ever changing as the weeks and months go on. I doubt they will close the restaurants that are currently open but we shall see!!

The update says monorail station will be closed until July 2021. So no monorail until the resort reopens.
