Hey Everyone,

So we’ve been looking at the DVC Resorts and the two we keep coming back to is Poly and Beach Club. Poly for this monorail and Beach Club for the pool. It’s only 2 of use. Travel whenever. Preferably anytime when school is in session. We’re currently here now which is the end April / 1st of May. Weather perfect and good crowds. If choosing between the 2 which one? Only need about 100 or so points ( I still have to look at the charts ) We go every year for a 4-7 day vacay. Is Beach Club easy to reserve at 7 months in the DVC high season?

Thanks
D.

"If choosing between the 2 which one?"

Poly is all studios except for a few expensive bungalows. BCV has studios, 1BRs and 2BRs.

BCV expires in 2042 while poly expires in 2066.

But if you want to stay at the BCV and swim in Stormalong Bay pool, you should own at BCV and book early.

No, it's not.

OTOH, DVC high season is in the fall. If you travel a lot in April and May, you might have better luck booking BCV with poly points. Or you might not. The safest bet if you have a strong preference is to buy where you want to stay and book at 11 months out.

With an interest in only 100 points to use annually, I'm guessing you're looking to be in a studio. While it's especially true during DVC High Season (Sept to mid-Jan), year-round, BCV at 7 months is increasingly difficult to book, and there's little hope of getting a studio there if you're not booking right at 7 months. BCV has a cult following, so people who buy there tend to stay there.

Definitely check out the point charts because 100 points is going to put you closer to the 4 than 7 day mark. And about a day less at Poly than BCV on any given 4-5 day stretch.

Basically, the lowest points seasons = DVC high season.

We call the period from mid-September through to marathon Fall Frenzy. You won't get studios at either BCV or Poly at 7 months during that time span.

Have you been to both resorts? If you're there now, you might want to make some time to visit each and determine which one really draws you in.

Buy both.

You’ll probably need a few more than 100 points, like 125 - 150.

Buy 75 at each resort.

Or 75 at one, 50 at the other.

Then bank/borrow and alternate years. That would give you 150 points each year at the alternating resorts if you bought 75 of each. That’s a more comfortable point spread anyway.

I own at both. Love them both. If I were forced to choose, It’d be BCV. But. I’m not forced to choose.

Neither are you. Pick them both.

Have you also considered Bay Lake Tower? Also on the monorail, has studios (standard, lake, and theme park view), 1 bedrooms, 2 bedrooms, and grand villas. Walking path to the MK. Expiration is 2060 (versus Poly 2066 and BCV 2042).

Maintenance fees are lower than Poly ($5.92 versus $6.20 per point).

Points go further there than Poly, as well:
Poly studio Magic season: 169 points (standard) or 199 points (lake view)
BLT same period: 139 points (standard), 153 points (lake view), or 183 points (theme park view).

In any case, 100 points is likely to be your "starter" purchase. After a short while, you'll get "addonitis" and add another block of points to stay longer or in larger accommodations.

Sorry everyone. I meant is booking BCV easy in the low DVC season? I looked at the point charts if I had roughly 75 points per Poly & BC I could Bank / borrow and go to one of them every other year. I just love putting my toes in the sand and seeing the MK fireworks. It’s still such a big decision and I don’t want to pick wrong. Granted we are coming back in Nov. so possibly a split stay at both to see which one

Yep checked them both out again and it’s the monorail at Poly that draws us there and the pool at BC that we love!! We’re going back in Nov. so I’m thinking of a split stay at both.

Low point season is busy DVC season and, especially if referencing the fall, is the time you need to own where you want to stay if that is in a studio

Yep that’s kind of what I was thinking 75 points at both to alternate between the years. We haven’t been to BLT. Just went through it on the monorail ( the contemporary portion anyway ) I just fell in love with Poly when I got to put my toes in the sand and watched the fireworks with the castle in the background. Guess we will have to check out BLT next time we go. We found out on this trip that we like the theming, pools and convenience.

BCV is never exactly "easy" to get a studio. During Fall Frenzy, home resort is a must, as for all runDisney events. It is actually pretty popular for spring break and summer due to pool. And with TSL and Galaxy's Edge and the upcoming Epcot redesign, and people buying BCV to book BCV (as no one is buying BCV resale or direct to sleep around, at current rates), it will only get even more challenging.

DVC's "low season" is after the marathon in January to late September (minus Easter week, spring break, and other short periods). Booking a BCV studio at 7 months there isn't impossible, but can be competitive at times. In general, DVC has been selling a lot of smaller contracts lately, which means people are targeting studios. I expect the competition for studios at 7 months to increase, even in the "low season". So, if you really want to be at BCV, plan on buying some points there.

I used to stay in CRO (cash) rooms at Poly before I bought DVC. I know what you mean about the "feet in the sand" while watching the fireworks. My wife and I bought at BLT, but still go, once a trip, to watch the fireworks from the Poly beach. But, being DVC members now, we also get to go to Top of the World Lounge at BLT to see those fireworks. While I don't get the sand, I do get a better view from there, similar to the one from the California Grille's terrace.

I think two contracts might be a good fit for you. We own BLT and BWV and love being able to be on the monorail some trips and EPCOT area on others. It allows us variety without having to sweat at the 7 month mark. We have the same UY and it's a breeze to manage. The only decision would be how many points per resort. I don't think you said your age, but if you are 40ish or younger I might buy more points at the longer dated Poly. That way when BCV expires you still have a decent amount of points to use.

Good luck with whatever you do!

I still don’t know which one to buy 1st. Buying 75 & 75 on the resale market is hard. The ones I have seen are already taken. How hard is it to get Poly the 1st week in May or the 1st week in Sept? I know the points are higher in May but I’m hoping that could work towards our advantage if we purchased BCV with 150 points. That would give us a 1 bed at BCV every other year or a studio every year at BCV in the dream season or hopefully a studio in the adventure season at Poly. I was thinking of possibly 100 & 100 at each place but I know I’m going to need a minimum of 150 for BCV if I want to book a 1 bed.

If this is your thinking (and not having perks doesn’t bother you) then I would look at 175-200 BCV points. You aren’t likely to land Poly during Fall Frenzy that way but you should be able to pick up trips here and there in the spring.

Yeah the perks question..... I was looking at that. The difference between Poly resale & direct isn’t much of a difference for perks. I mean I’m decently ok without the perks but I really like perks even if they aren’t really worth it. I mean it’s only the two of us going to Disney every year. I mean would the perks even be worth it? Granted I like the promo on season passes but that’s about it. I know perks come and go. Guess I’ll read up on the perks to see if they would be any real benefit.

There’s a larger differential at the moment between Poly pricing ($150 resale vs $220 direct) than BCV ($140 resale vs $185 direct).

And Poly will be easier to find resale.

My take if you’re not sure about perks is to buy 75 points direct at BCV. Get to know the product and THEN decide if you want 75-125 more BCV points or Poly resale.

If you get a Oct UY, that should protect you for spring trips and get you 2017 UY points if bought direct. That gives you 150 points off the top to play with, perks, and gets you started with a membership.

75 Oct (or Dec even) UY BCV direct.

That’s where I’d start.

BC does have a nice holiday display, but you can’t count on swimming in SAB during the low point season, well in September, swimming is pretty much assured.

Oh yep I didn’t realize Poly increased direct that much. Granted I still had the direct timeshare prices for last year and Poly was $176 per point direct. Still looking/debating. Decisions, decisions.
