Poly or Beach Club?

I can't decide which resort. I love the idea of a food court at Poly but I was just wondering if the grounds are very dark at night. Beach Club seems bright and more lively atmosphere with the boardwalk all lit up. Another concern is granddaughter has peanut allergy and loves Mickey Waffles and only place to get them is at Cape May Cafe. Don't want to have to go there every day. Anyone find the grounds at Poly very dark at night. Thanks

I find the poly to be very overrated and I think the Crescent Lake resorts are the most convenient. I like the Beach Club, but L O V E the boardwalk inn. That is my absolute favorite. I would do either over the poly. Also not sure when your trip is but construction is still going on at the poly and when I was there a few months ago I was surprised to see how bad it was. Plywood sub walls all over the place.

We have stayed at the Yacht Club (adjacent to the Beach CLub) for the past two summers and were booked to try the Poly this August. We jumped ship recently because of all the construction and the backup pool also being down in August at the Poly. We are going back to the Yacht Club for our third summer in a row. There is plenty to do in this Crescent Lake area for everyone. The only downfall is the lack of a quick service food court. We have learned to get by without it by ordering breakfast/snack items from Garden Grocer. You will love the Beach Club.

We love the BC... for the convenience of the location and the various transportation options. Our DD has a PN allergy too. We typically book a character breakfast in one of the parks, as that is my DH's and DD's favorite meal, so we never have to worry about getting a waffle :) We then bring fruit & snacks for lunch and do a QS for dinner. I don't ever remember seeing waffles in the Marketplace. Room service might be a good option. Enjoy your trip!

The BC definitely is nicely lit at night. You're exactly right in the energy of the boardwalk, plus the comfortable light at night, does make an enjoyable experience. Not sure about your mickey waffle dilemma, pretty sure you can get those a lot of places. Captain's Grille has the buffet too (for way cheaper than Cape May). Or is it because of the peanut allergy and only cape may is "safe"?

I haven't stayed at the beach club but we love the Poly! I don't think the grounds are too dark but I suppose with torch lighting it could be darker than the BC but we could always see where to walk etc, it was just subtle lighting. In terms of not feeling lively though, I think hearing the music and wishes from MK, hearing the luau, hanging on the beach, seeing the monorail and boats, and being able to pop into resorts or MK easily makes for plenty to do.

The pluses for the Poly for me are the direct monorail to MK and Epcot (at TTC), boat to MK, seeing wishes and the castle from the beach, dole whips, captain cooks, Ohana, Kona breakfast, monorail to other resorts etc. I think for a younger child, always feeling like your in the magic of MK is awesome but I'm sure either would be great :)

Do you plan to be at Epcot or MK more? If Epcot is your fave, you can't beat walking in and walking out. If MK is where most of your time will be, I find the Epcot hotels a pain to get there from. It felt longer than my ride there from AKL. In that case, I would go Poly.

I have stayed YC twice and while I like the hotel, find it lacking for breakfast. I use QS when I need to be out the door fast and options are really limited at Beach Club marketplace. You can walk to Boardwalk Bakery, but if is farther than you think.

We've stayed at both and while I'm glad we tried the BC, the Poly is our favorite and would be our choice without hesitation. The grounds are beautiful any time of day or night and we didn't find it to be too dark in the evening. We also prefer the MK area over the Epcot area. It is nice being within walking distance to 2 parks from the Epcot resorts, but we find the CS options to be too limited for what we like, which is a deal breaker for us. With that said, Captain Cooks is our favorite resort CS as there are a lot of great options, IMO (including Mickey waffles ;)).

I agree with everything here :).

We did a YC/Poly split stay last summer and loved them both! We wouldn't hesitate to stay at either or another split stay at both. Each was very convenient to the respective parks so it was like the best of both worlds!

Breakfast was a bit more challenging at the YC as far as a quick service option goes, we did grab a continental type breakfast one morning at the Ale & Compass for convenience, it was ok... Captain Cooks at the Poly was great, we had a few breakfasts on the go there & enjoyed them.

We didn't find the Poly to be dark at night. We had a beautiful view across the lagoon of the Grand Floridian & could watch Wishes from our room if we were back in time. There was pathway lighting as well as lit torches (perhaps because we were somewhat near the Luau Cove)

No, the grounds at the Poly are not particularly dark at night. There is a lush foliage landscaping that gives a different atmosphere at the Poly than the YC/BC. It isn't as 'open' somehow? Pathways are narrower perhaps? So, I understand what you mean. Lots of trees give shadows day and night. However, the feeling walking around at night is more romantic and pretty than dark in a gloomy or scary way.

There are lots of lights on the paths and the flickering torchlight provides a lovely ambience. The castle can be seen across the water and there is lots of activity with boats, monorail fireworks and the ELP. Music plays around the resort trails, there is a luau and the horns from the boats all add to the tropical, peaceful feeling.

I wouldn't worry too much about the peanut allergy. The chefs at all the WDW restaurants are excellent about helping people with allergies get safe food to eat. Mickey waffles shouldn't be a problem in the MK area - you might have to let the restaurants know in advance what your child's needs are, however. And check again upon arrival at the restaurant.

Both BC and the Poly are great resorts with lots to offer. I wouldn't hesitate to stay in either one again. It would be a shame to miss out on the special experience it is to stay at the Poly because of a fear that it might be dark. I think that if you try it, you will love it there - most people do!

My only concern at the Poly right now is how you feel about some construction. There will be construction to varying degrees until sometime in 2016. You might want to consider if that is an issue for you.

Whichever you choose, have a magical vacation!

Everything said above makes the Poly feel like a dream vacation within a dream vacation! :beach: I cannot wait to stay there! I hope whichever resort you choose you have a truly wonderful vacation! :D

We have stayed at both the PR and BC over the years have can safely say both grounds are well lite at night. To clarify the PR does not have a food court as deluxe resorts only have TS and CS dining options. Earlier in their history before wide spread deployment of the dining plans the deluxe resort provided TS and Snack Bar options. As far as waffles go their offered at various dining places other than Cape May like Grand Floridian Café, 1900 Park Fare, Ohana, Chef Mickey's, etc. Here is a link to Disney outlining a new released program regarding food allergies http://disneyparks.disney.go.com/bl...enus-at-disneyland-walt-disney-world-resorts/

Have you considered club level? depending on how many people are in your party, you might actually save money by eating breakfast in the lounge every day. And if you can find a discount price:-)! We also use the lounge for light evening meals.
We usually have our grandchildren with us & having the lounge access is so convenient. We've stayed both places & loved them both. I think it is mostly dependent on which parks you will be spending the most time visiting. Poly for sure if Magic kingdom is on your agenda for several days. And, no, it wasn't too dark at all.
