Poly or Beach Club??

Stayed at both. I would choose the Polynesian, based on the bigger rooms, monorail and theme. However, if this trip is for next year, I'd probably book Beach Club simply because Disney has given us no idea what kind of construction mess we can expect at the Poly.

I stayed at both back to back on a split stay last December and have about the same views as mickeynut1 (overall, I prefer Poly, but each has its advantages).

Poly advantages:
-I prefer the theming at the Poly and find that the resort has a more relaxing and enveloping feel.
-Rooms are bigger.
-Being able to Monorail to MK and EP beats being able to walk to EP and HS (not because riding the Monorail beats walking, especialy given how frequently the Monorail is out of service:headache:, but because we spend a lot more time at MK than HS).
-I too prefer the Nanea Pool over SAB (it's more compact and the water slide, IMO, is better and much easier to access)
-I like the GCH lobby smell:cloud9: better than the BC lobby smell.
-Wishes on the beach.

BC advantages:
-Very nice to be less than a 10 minute walk to World Showcase.
-Boardwalk area is within walking distance and is very fun and lively in the evenings.
-Bathrooms have a better layout (vanity separate from shower and toilet).
-SAB has hot tubs.
-Don't have to go outside to get from room to lobby area.
-Easy walk to your room after Illuminations.
-Less expensive.

FWIW, a splt stay at both of these resorts worked out GREAT for us (realizing that split stays aren't for everyone).

This has convinced me to do a split stay between the Poly and another resort. I have always dreamed of staying at the Poly and it makes sense if we do a couple of late nights at MK with a 5 year old. But I also like the idea of walking out of Epcot after Illuminations! I was thinking of trying the Dolphin but after reading this thread, I think my teens will like the theming of the BC more.

I have already booked our last 2 nights for the Poly, so tomorrow I will decide on where we will stay for our 1st two nights.

We are planning on going Sept 2014 and are also going back and forth between poly and BC. We plan on going to MK the most with the kids 4 /6 . Our plan is to use the money we save at BC to just take a cab to CR and walk to MK. We will still save money at BC even if we went 3 or 4 times and avoid any construction/pool issue.

We have stayed at both multiple times, but Poly is my favorite for sentimental reasons. You can't go wrong with either one. If you will be spending most of your time at MK then i would go with the Poly, especially given the ages of your kids.

When are you going? There is some construction comming at the poly over the next few years. The pool will be closed at some point , check out your dates to see what would bother you, nothing official yet, but it is comming. With that said I love the poly but with the construction you would have to decide if it would bother you too much. Check out tikimans page. Have a great trip!!

We've stayed at the Poly three times and love everything about it. I stayed at the Beach Club Villas last month and am in no hurry to return (and probably won't unless I get it for free). It was by far the absolute worse bus service ever out of all the resorts we have stayed at, the pool was way too crowded (and too big if you have really little ones to keep an eye on) and we did not have the friendliest of CM's during our stay.

Thank-you to everyone that has replied with so many great points!

I am going to do my best to answer all questions people have asked;

*We are coming this Oct; Oct 12th-27th at Disney and then 8 days in Treasure Island on the beach, cant wait!

*We will have a rental car, so we are not concerned about buses, but thank-you to all for the warning on the bus issues BC sometimes has

*I have explored the idea of DVC or a cash studio/1 bedroom on Disney property, but I have had no luck so far:(

*We will be doing MK a few times in our 1st 6 days of being at Disney, and not so much DHS or Epcot, except an ADR at Epcot one evening. I have Epcot and DHS planned later in the trip

*I am not sure about the construction going on at the Poly..is it happening this coming Oct?

*If we stayed off property for 5 nights, we would stay at Marriott Harbour Lake in a 2 bedroom condo for $500 (my parents get a great deal). Anyone stay here before?

I am not sure if I have answered everything, but I do really appreciate everyone taking there time to help me decide on a resort. Who would have thought it would be this hard!!

I think I might be leaning more towards the Poly, but still not 100% sure! I have the Poly already booked with the 30% off GP discount, but the BC is still available as well for my dates except the discount is only 20% off which makes the Poly and BC almost the same price per night.

The rumor is construction will start sept , people are being bumped to gf, don't want to scare you, just help you make an informed choice for your family, read the poly construction thread here in resorts board

That would suck! I will check out the Poly construction thread. If the pool closed, it would be a no brainer to pick BC, but I will take a look and hope its nothing major.

Thanks for the heads up!

I'm surprised that a GP discount is available for those dates at BC. Several months ago AAA discount wasn't even available at BC for Oct 19th-27th. I also had a very hard time getting either a GP discount or free dining at Poly for those dates at Poly, and I started checking first thing when they came out. I finally got free dining at Poly for my dates, but it took several days of checking. You got really lucky!
