Poly or AKL??

What resort do you think is better Poly or AKL? I have reservations for the Poly (i have been there before) 5/1, but we are thinking about changing. We love the monorail but what do u think??

We love both, they are so different. Poly has much larger rooms, great transportation options, and I love watching Wishes and Electric Water Parade from the beach.

AKL has a beautiful lobby, and the savannas!

If you haven't stayed at AKL, I think it's fun to experience different resorts. But it would depend on how many of you are in the room. AKL rooms are smaller.

If you have kids... there are pros and cons to both. Poly is nice because it is centrally located while AKL if a lot further out. When we stayed at AKL last year it took us a half hour or more to get to MK and then the drive back seemed twice as long because of my extremely sleepy toddler! If I had to chose again, it would be Poly just because of the convenience with my kids. However, either resort you can't go wrong! They are both absolutely beautiful!!!

Having stayed at both, I think they're both great resorts . The Poly is great being the rooms are bigger and every room has a daybed, but AKL is unique in that you can view animals roaming around the savannah . The Poly is convenient being on the monorail, but for something different, you can't beat AKL . Good luck deciding......but you really can't go wrong with either resort .

My thoughts are why are you even thinking of making a change? Why AKL? Why not another deluxe?

I have stayed at and love both of them. You really can't go wrong with either! If you think having the monorail will be better, and like the hawaii/retro theme then choose the Poly. As previous posters have mentioned, the rooms are larger plus there is the beach and boat transportation. You can also walk to the GF and can access the work out facility, not to mention the coffee at the Kona Coffee bar is the best in WDW - so really lots of pluses for the Poly. However, if the monorail and beach are not that important, and you prefer the safari theming go AKL. You will have the animals to watch, the pool is great, plus you really do feel like you are somewhere exotic. Rates could be less, depending on the category you pick. Either location could be great! Enjoy deciding.

Both are fabulous. PP's have already mentioned many pro's and con's.

If I were making this decision it would depend on how many days I was staying. I only like to stay at AKL for a few days bc the transportation starts to get to me. We usually do a split stay for that reason. The days spent at AKL tend to be resort/pool days, water park days (you have to take a bus from any resort so we figure it doesn't matter) or AK days.

Waking up with the animals is awesome though! Tough choice.

I'll just add that AKL has hot tubs/jacuzzis by the pool. The AKL lobby is awesome and there is the outdoor fire to sit around. We were @ the Poly last dec., the monorail was great but the Poly lobby was always so crowded and I missed relaxing in a jacuzzi ea night.

I've never stayed in either of them, but I would choose AKL in a heartbeat.
I love the way it looks and the savanna's around it. Waking up in the morning and look at giraffes just outside your window.

Poly seems nice too, but its more expensive, and during a Disney vacation I do not spend every day at MK, so proximity to MK is not an issue for me.

We've stayed at both and love both, but if I was prepared to spend the full amount on an AKL savannah room, I would probably just upgrade to the Poly. The transportation options and the location on the lake make the price worth it to me more so than watching the animals at AKL.

I do love the AKL though, and would like to stay there again sometime in a standard or maybe a pool view room.

I would go with the Polynesian because in my opinion they have a better theme, overall location and more transportation options.

We like to try new resorts....AKL is not on the list, though, simply because of the transportation options. What about the CR, GF or WL? They are ALL wonderful!! If you like the monorail go with the CR or GF.
