Been to WDW about 14 times since 1999 and have never stayed at the POLY. We just changed to stay there 2 nights before we go to Bay Lake Tower for the last 5 nights on our points. There are 4 of us, myself, wife, DS-20 and DD-16, will we like the poly? Have shyed away before because it seemed much older, but i know its an original. Price wasnt too much more than WL with bunk beds so we switched this morning with only 20 days to go!

Tell me all about it!

it is a wonderful resort! it may be an original but it is very islandy and has a tropical feel. the views from the beach are worth every penny. kona cafe is a great place to eat, try the tonga toast, it is a must. you will enjoy taking the monorail to mk and to epcot. the pool is very fun and watching wishes on the beach is one of the best things to do at disney. enjoy your trip :goodvibes

We too are WDW vets. We stayed at the Poly for the first time 18 months ago. I loved it so much that now I can't wait to stay there again! I did not get a sense that it was an aging facility. I think this is due to timely updates and refurbs thru the years.
Enjoy your stay!

The Poly is our favorite resort.....we just love it :goodvibes. It is an original, but I think Disney does a great job of keeping it up to date :thumbsup2. The tropical atmosphere is beautiful and relaxing and you can't beat the close proximity to MK ;). Plus having the beach for watching the fireworks and being able to see the castle while swimming is magical :wizard:. I think you'll have a great stay :).

The Magic 8 Ball says "Absolutely"!

We love the atmosphere of the Poly but bottom line is it's all about personal preference for you and your family. Only you can answer that question. You may like it, you may not but you'll never know until you try it.

We stayed there on our 3rd trip. We have decided we will not stay at anything smaller.

We just returned Friday from a week at the All Star Sports. While it was "ok", I will always stay at a deluxe if I can from now on. We loved the convenience of the Poly. The TTC and ferries are right there as well as the monorail running to it makes it well worth the extra cost. I know a lot of folks say all you do is sleep in your room, but when you have 3 adult sized folks and a almost 4 year old, things can seemed to get cramped pretty quickly. Already planning for our return in 2014.

The rooms are large. The monorail is convenient.

The Polynesian stands out as one of our very favorites! The monorail is extremely convenient, the views of the MK are phenomenal. You can watch the fireworks at MK from the beach as well as the electric water pageant (if they still have it) around Bay Lake. The island theme is just perfect and I never saw any sign of age. Even giving out leis upon arrival. The luau is great if you choose to take advantage of that. There is a character breakfast at Ohana with Lilo & Stitch and Ohana is a delicious family style dinner in the evening. The pool is great and has a fun slide but your kids may be older and no longer looking for that...I have little ones so pool is important!

I am a very visual person and appreciate having a great view even at Disney when many rightfully say you do not stay in the room enough to need a view. We love all the resorts around MK for that reason...in fact I am a little jealous since you will be staying at BLT.

If it weren't for the price and paying two college educations, we would probably still be staying there. We always loved our stays at the Poly and hope to stay again one day, even if it is a split stay.

Trust me, you will enjoy your stay immensely.

Old doesn't always equal bad. Yes it's a older hotel, but it's got so much charm. I can't find anything bad to say about it exept they need to put in a hot tub. Have a great trip.

The Poly is our favorite! It is an original and a classic (think of it like that, not as "old")! :thumbsup2

We love everything about it, location, theme, restaurants, grounds, rooms. It's true that it lacks a hot tub, but I can't imagine you would miss one in early August. We were there at that time last year, and we never would have considered using one.

Enjoy!

We are finally staying at the Poly on our trip in August. While I've never stayed there before, I love the resort. Our family makes an effort to eat at Kona every single trip, breakfast and dinner are both great. We love the grounds, shopping and restaurants at the Poly.

The Poly is beautiful and you'll love it.

Plus, it passed the Mother-in-Law test! ;)

We have vacationed with my in-laws frequently over the years. 99% of the time, we choose the hotel or house to rent, etc. Invariably, there is some issue with wherever we choose to stay. Funny smell, bed is too firm/too soft, pillows aren't comfortable, room it too small/too big...you get the picture.

I don't recall hearing any complaints after our stay there!

I'm torn on this one. I stayed here in May 2008 and the resort was pretty, loved how close it was to TTC, and with the monorail stop it was by far the easiest resort to get from here to there. I had a run in with some stupidity from what I thought was the front desk I was calling, found out later it was some offsite call center which explained why they told me you can't buy umbrella strollers on Disney property (every shop sells them!!!). Also had an issue with a lack of cabs at 10pm one night. Couldn't wait for the free shuttle for urgent care due to a small non-life threatning medical emergency, were told by Poly incorrect info about on-call doctors and then they refused to call us a cab, had to call our own and it took 30 minutes to show up. Thought the rooms were a bit dark and kind of small for a deluxe resort. But loved all the ducks and lizards on the paths, pool was great, DS loved the slide and the beach was a nice touch. So like I said, I'm torn on this resort. Didn't hate it, didn't love it.

We stayed there last August and it was great. We had a theme park view and it couldn't be beat but to be honest my favorite resort is WL and I can't wait to get back this August. Don't get me wrong I loved the tropical gardens and we love Kona. The large rooms were nice but it just wasn't the lodge. I guess it's definitely personal prefernce.

Oh my goodness, you will LOVE it! I can't imagine anyone not liking the Poly!

One of my favs! The rooms are huge and you can't beat the ease of the monorail and the boats to the MK!! Make sure to walk around at night with all the tiki torches lit! Watch the Electrical Light Parade and fireworks from a hammock on the beach. Make sure to get Tonga Toast for breakfast! If you get a ground floor room, you get a little porch/patio off your room. You won't be disappointed!!!
