Poly LVC OR CR MKView???

We are currently booked for the CR, MKView in the Tower and I'm wondering if the Poly would be better for Summer time.

We stayed at the CR in July '06 and LOVED it. Basically because of the location...you can just decide to go to the MK and you're there in 10 mins by foot (quicker than the monorail). But, the construction and hustle and bustle of the resort is somewhat of a turn off.

We stayed Poly LVC in December '05 and it was just incredible. But, I wasn't sure of the crowds in the pool in July since the pool really isn't that big.

What do I do????

Hi! BTW- you're DD is beautiful! I don't know about the summer @ the POLY;but we really love the magic of the POLY LVC. We'll be back in May and I can't wait! Just thinking of watching wishes from the balcony while the kids are in their jammies and I'm enjoying a glass of wine from the lounge... My vote is for the POLY and of course LVC!!!! The Volcano pool can get pretty crowded in the summer, but the quiet pool is just a few yards away and tends to be a lot less crowded. The fact that both pools are right outside of the Hawaii building makes it a quick hop outside, and at the CR you would have a longer hike.

I have had both those exact views when staying at the Contemporary and Polynesian. While the LVC view is amazing, my vote would go to the Contemporary Magic Kingdom View. My reason is I like to see more of the Magic Kingdom which we can get at the Contemporary, where as at the Poly in the Lagoon View from the Hawaii Longhouse you would only see Cinderella's Castle. ConcKahuna is 100% correct that the Hawaii Longhouse is closer to the Volcano pool then any room in the Contemporary Tower, however the elevator ride at the Contemporary to the lobby and the walk outside to the pool does not take long at all. As for the construction as of right now the only thing major is happening outside where the North Garden Wing building use to be, so that has no effect on the guests staying in the Tower and South Garden Wings. The next set of construction inside is to start in May and end in August when the Concourse Steakhouse is turned into Chef Mickey's Express.

ConcKahuna, CR Resort Fan and Frankiesmom...I actually did something yesterday afternoon and I thought I would never do....I changed my ressie to the AKV! I actually got a 1 bedroom Villa for less than my Tower MK room at CR.

I know I won't be seeing that beautiful view of MK, but the thought of having a king bed, jetted tub and full kitchen was just good to pass up. Sometimes food options start to get dismal towards the end of the trip and it'll be nice to cook something up.

This will be our 11th trip in 5 years and we know our way around the "World" pretty well via our van so I won't have to depend on the busses.

Thank you so, so much for your insight and opinions. I'm actually really excited to be visiting the AKL for the first time since 2002.

I had looked into the views for the Poly and I saw a garden view...can anyone explain what to expect (I would hate to be looking at the parking lot)..and the Lagoon view is about $500.00 more and I was not sure if it was worth the extra money. Any advice?

Disney's room "views" are subject to broad interpretation. Water view, may be if you hang over your balcony you may be able to see the pool. Garden view means you will see foliage, at the poly there is plenty.

To my knowledge there are no parking lot views at the poly, the only possible parking lot view would be in Rapa Nui. The longhouses are set back and are surrounded by trees. Really, there isn't a bad view at the Poly, sometimes there is no view, (like a tree smack in front of your window) but it is not an ugly view. So I wouldn't worry too much about getting a bad view at the Poly.

I like Samoa, it is right by the pool and a few steps to the Great Ceremonial House (main building).

Check out the poly map and look at the location of the longhouses, and pick your first two choices, and have that request put on your reservation. Keep in mind that Tonga and Hawaii are conceirge buildings.

Mom2Rae, Our very 1st disney stay was @ AKL-and that's what got us hooked! We had a savannah view and it was wonderful to eat breakfast every morning while watching the animals! On our last trip we also stayed at the AKL and had a pool view-both views were great and we had a great time! Enjoy AKL-a wonderful resort with sooo much to do and see!

Changing to AKL sounds like a good idea for you. Why not try new things! Our last trip was CR MKV and it was fantastic. I think for the next trip we might try something different.

Well I guess the important thing is you have a new reservation set and that's all what counts. Plus you can start planning your next trip to WDW without worrying which Resort you should stay at.

Garden View can mean pretty much anything,
It can be views of all the plants,trees, etc.
Also there it is possible you will see some of the lagoon just with a tree or something particially blocking the view.
I think there are a few rooms in Rapi Nuie (SP?) that face towards the parking lot, but still its a pretty nice view.

Lagoon view means you will have an unobstructed view of the lagoon, possibly a view with some of the castle in it.

We normally stay in Tokelau with a garden view and both stays have been able to see some of the lagoon.

Last month when my family and I stayed at the Poly we got upgraded to a Club Level Lagoon View, when our original reservation was for a Club Level Garden View. Anyway after having the Lagoon view and seeing Cinderella's Castle I can see why the Lagoon view is more expensive. Of course if we never got the upgrade we would have seen the same view from the lounge on the 2nd floor in the Hawaii Longhouse, however it's a lot different when seeing from there and from your own room.

Sorry, OT, but I thought that the Concourse was going to become some sort of Asian fusion restaurant called the Wave.

That is correct. On May 10, 2008 the Concourse Steakhouse is closing and it's being relocated to the lobby where the Food & Fun Center use to be and will re-open as the Wave, which is going to have an Asian themed menu.
