Does anyone know if they are done yet ?? If not, does anyone know when they will be finished ?? Pictures ?? :)

Yes, I went to his site and it says it started in January. It did not say when it would be finished. Just wondered if anyone knew how it was going and when they would be done. WE are going in June and hope it is done by then.

I don't know when it will be done but it really doesn't impact your stay at all. The area under construction is shielded by attractive walls decorated with Tiki masks. The shops and Captain Cooks are open. I wouldn't worry about it at all.

Oh, and it did start before January. We were there in October and at that time work was going on in the back area where the children's clothing shop had been recently. It is now in the lobby to the side where the restrooms were. Without checking Tikiman's site, perhaps his latest pictures or reports were from January.

He just had it under his January 2005 rehab schedule and pictures of the GCH. If if started before January maybe they are close. I know it will be ok if it is still under rehab but would love to see their finished work. :)

Does anyone know what part of the GCH is under construction?

Thanks

Ok... so it's just past the check-in desks by the bathrooms? Nothing back by the shops?? Nothing on the second level?? Thanks! :wave2:

As you walk into the GCH, the checkin and guest services areas are to your right. The elevators are further down that side...no restrooms. Never have been in my memory.

On the left side is the little TV area which is still there. Behind that was Wyland Gallery in what was the South Seas Room many years ago. Continuing down that lefthand wall there were two different corridors with restrooms. Wyland's and those restrooms are now blocked off by the wall.

There are new restrooms in the area where the kid's shop was facing the corridor after the back stairs. Taking the next turn to the left, there is no longer a companion bathroom nor a drinking fountain (although there is a fountain by the new restrooms). Those back shops are still there as of last weekend except that the men's shop has been moved into what was part of the ladies shop and Wyland Gallery has been relocated into the men's shop area.

No construction at all upstairs although the costume type area by the monorail doors seems a little more extensive.

From reading Tikiman's site and what CMs have told me, that area in front currently under construction will become a/the shopping area.

Hope that answered both of you. :sunny:

It had started back when we were there the beginning of October. I asked one of the workers what was happening, and he said they were relocating the restrooms to the area that was once the kids shop across from Captain Cooks, then the area where the restrooms were would become a shop. They were also going to do something upstairs to make the costume shop look more "finished". Can't wait to see the finished result!

Ok... I've got it straight in my mind now. I was thinking there were restrooms near the elevators, but I was confused momentarily. ;) So the wall begins on the left side near the gallery and continues down toward the shops and ends just before you get to them?

The wall begins on the left side wall at the very front of the lobby including what was the Wyland Gallery. It runs that full side of the lobby including the area that was most recently for the Cruise Line and also contained the ATM...the area that was Gust Services in years past for fellow oldtimers. ;) It ends across the hall from News from Civilization.

But we were last in the GCH a week ago today...it could be different by now. :confused3

Hope that helps Erika.

Do they still have the kids waiting area on the left when you first walk in?

Sorry so many questions... just trying to get a feel for what it might be like. :)

Yes, that was still there. That is what I meant when I spoke of the little TV area although of course at times it is a craft area too!
