Poly - dark rooms question.....

Some say the rooms at the Poly are too dark & some say they are not. Are there certain longhouses or certain views that may be more bright & sunny than others? Any particular longhouse or view to avoid?

When people refer to the Poly being dark, I don't think they are referring to sunlight. They are referring to the room colors being darker. Darker wood furniture, darker fabrics, etc. Also--the lighting inside the room is not very bright. If you need to read very small print or prefer bright light for doing make-up or something, you may want to bring an extra light. it is fine to read by in general but not as bright as the lighting in some other resort rooms. Hope that makes sense.

Oh I found the AKL much darker than Poly. Our room was in the Aotearoa longhouse and it was beautiful and bright as can be. The sliding glass door was the same width as the room and brought in a lot of light! I also noticed there were more than enough lighting in the room. I think it also helps that the rooms are much larger than the other deluxes. It's funny when we were walking around the resort after we checked in...my youngest son said, "this is paradise!"

We just returned from the Poly ~ our room was in Tokelau. I did not find it dark at all; when the curtains to the patio were open, it was actually quite bright. If I remember correctly, the bottom half of the walls were a darker brown, but the upper part were a lighter cream/beige color.

We didn't find our room ( Tahiti) particularly dark. We had a MK view. On the othe hand, I felt the walkways around the resort to be troublesomely dark at night. That's one reason we are trying a different resort this time.

I agree that it's the darkness of the furniture in the rooms that people are referring to. The rooms are sunny and bright. The hallways seem a little darker than the GF, but the AKL seemed darker.

I think it's the decor that is dark, not the rooms. We had a MK room in Hawaii (CL) and one wall is glass doors. They let in plenty of light.

Just returned last week. Past 2 years we have stayed there. I agree with above, I think people are referring to the wood work, headboards, etc.when they were talking about it being dark....When it was day time our room was plenty bright. And I never had any issues at night. First year we stayed in Samoa facing the Volcano Pool, thought that room was awesome. We could see Grand Floridian in background and looked at the pool. This year we stayed in Fiji, and LOVED it. We were third floor and our room overlooked the marina, and then in the distance was the Contemporary and the lake. And of course we saw the back of the Volcano. I will definitely request this building again. I love being by the water! So relaxing and tranquil.

I will say though many Longhouses do NOT have balconies on the second floor. So if that is important to you definitely request a balcony. I would go crazy if I paid the money to be at a Deluxe and didn't have a balcony. Check out Tikimans website. It is all about Polynesian and he talks about all the different Longhouses.

Oh and my mom was also with us and stayed in Fiji as well but she was on the other side of the building and she faced the beach and Grand Floridian, also very nice!

Thanks everyone! Now I understand what everyone means by dark! LOL! I am glad to know that the rooms let in lots of light - that is what I was concerned about.

I think the 'dark' is referring to the light bulbs. Seems like all hotels these days put lower wattage bulbs in the lamps so you can't even read when sitting directly under them. I'm actually considering taking light bulbs with me on our next trip.

I thought the room at the Poly seemed dark. The lighting also seemed dim, but I think it's supposed to be that way.

I also thought AKL and WL rooms seemed dark, as well. Even with the windows, I still think it seemed dark.

I like the Poly and AKL, and the darnkess does bother me a bit, but not enough to not stay at either one of them again.

I like bright.

I don't think you will be disappointed with the Poly.
