We will be at Poly with our DS who will be 18 months when we go Sept/Oct. He just recently did very well for 3 out of 4 nights in the PackNPlay we brought. I worry though that the mattress is so thin that for a 8 or 9 night stay he would be uncomfortable. I have seen the Poly cribs described on this board as smallish with metal bars. Just not sure which would be better.

Also, where in the room does one put the crib or PacknPlay? With the new Poly renovations, I am not exactly sure where it goes. I have seen threads where folks talk about it not being in the way, etc. , but I am still curious where in the room do you put it?

Hi!

Last summer we stayed at the Polynesian and they had a small crib as opposed to a pack n play. My DD (12 months at the time) slept just fine in the crib. When we were at the WL in October 2004 - my DD was 3 months and she slept fine in the pack n play.

So I think you will be fine with whatever sleeping device they have for you at the Polynesian. ;)

We placed the crib on the wall next to one of the beds (the wall that is the other side of the bathroom) and DD was fine.

Hope this helps!

If you can get a pack n play, Graco makes a quilted sheet that goes over the mattress. I use one with ours and it adds a little more padding. Babies R Us carries it. I will be bringing ours (we drive to WDW) for our 1 yr old. I did buy her one of those peapods (small tent with a little air mattress). It kept her confined, but I dont think she liked it much. It was fine once she was asleep. The problem came when I would have to nurse her to sleep, then Id put her in and zip it closed. The zipper sound woke her up!

The other thing that I got when my son was little (course hes only 4 now) was the toddler bed by Aerobed. Its an airmattress (not cheap) where the middle is recessed so the child cant roll out. I also got him one of those ready beds (Toys R Us and Target carry them) which is an inflatable sleeping bag. An 18 mos old isnt quite ready for that just yet though.

Thanks for those ideas! I will be driving and can bring our own packnplay if that would be better. I was thinking that the crib at Poly might better, IF it is more comfortable than the PacknPlay or IF it fits in the room better.

I also appreciate the tips on making the packnplay a little more comfortable!

Does everyone put the crib between the bed and the wall that connects to the bathroom? In the photos of the Poly renovated rooms, it looks like that would be a very tight squeeze!

Since you will be driving, I would recommend getting a portable crib mattress. It is made to fit in the pack n play type portable cribs. They are around $20.00 and are very light. It wouldn't take up too much space in the car, and your DS will be more comfortable. Here is a link, but I bet you would be able to find one in a local store...

The metal cribs come in various sizes. We know this from 3-4 trips with DS (now 16 months) who will NOT sleep in a pack and play. He has slept in the smallish metal cribs but only if the mattress is a think mattress. We have received one mattress once that was about 1 inch think. It was a nightmare. The hotel should be able to double or triple up the mattress if need be, so that is always an option (we found this to be the case at about 3am one night at BCV).

You can rent a full sized crib from abbf.com. They come un-assembled. They will be in the luggage room at the hotel and when you check in they will bring it up to your room like luggage. They are easy to assemble and just like what you have at home pretty much. I am sure they will fit in the rooms at poly. Not sure where a good spot would be though. We haven't stayed there in a few years and didn't use a crib at the time anyways. With DS we have considered staying there, but we have DVC and are taking advantage of separate rooms.

Good luck!

Since your DC is 18 mths, have you considered just using the daybed with 2 bedrails (so fully enclosed daybed)? My DS used this set up the in June the weekend before his 2nd b-day and was very content. At 31 lbs and 34 1/4", he is too big for his Graco PnP and has been for a long time. He's also too big for a portable crib or anything smaller than a standard crib. We had to get a crib tent for home because he's a climber but he did just fine with the daybed and the bedrails and it took up no extra room (we flew). I requested maid service not make up the daybed during the day so as to not disturb the bed rails and still we had plenty of room.

I don't think there is anyway that a PnP will fit between the wall and the bed in the refurbished rooms. I suppose we could have put it up against the connecting door long ways but it would have stuck out considerably.

BTW, the refurbished rooms are great. I requested a patio room because DS is a spiderbaby. We took our niece so requested 2 queens and received Fiji 1313 (I believe) marina side (GV) with a great view of the marina. As an added bonus there were bushes that separated the patio from the walkway so DS could not "escape" while we were on the patio. We just loved this location. The only con was that it was a connecting room and when our neighbors were a bit loud at night we could hear through the door. I was up anyway and it didn't disturb the family so no big deal though.

Thanks for all the great info. The permafoam portable crib mattress looks like it would definitely improve the comfort level in the packnplay. Our baby was a preemie, so he is a little small for his age, and I do not see us using the sofa bed with bed rails. He is just too small still.

I am worried about the crib placement in the new rooms. Thanks for the input that you don't think it will fit between the bed and the wall. That is exactly what I thought when looking at the photos of the new rooms.

Hmmm, well I wonder where folks are putting the cribs or packnplays in these new rooms. Do all of them have a space with an adjoining door? Is that between the desk and the start of the hall with the closets? If we put it there, wouldn't it be out in the middle of the room?

If you are driving then I would bring your own pack n play as long as your child still fits comfortably inside it. This way you know how it works, that its in good shape, and its clean. I worry about using hotel stuff when it comes to safety and cleanliness.

I like that mattress, however, make sure that its not too thick. If its too thick it might raise the child enough, making it easier for him to climb out!

Thanks Alloyd! Great point. I am going to look at that mattress at BRU and see how thick it is. I think it would help to make it more comfortable for 9 nights.

BTW, I am in Charleston. Nice to see a fellow South Carolinian on the Disboard!

If you are at all concerned then I would definitely do the PnP

I don't know about all of the rooms but yes the area I was referring to was the space between te desk and hall where the closets start and I do think it would stick out considerably. The other possible place is by the chair near the doorwall. It would block the doorwall somewhat, but I think it could fit in this area. There is an ottoman but that could be moved. There is a tall floor lamp but that could be pushed back or moved. Frankly the chair could be moved to the area between the desk and the hall wall. The ottomon could go about anywhere including under the bathroom sink. I wish I knew how to post pics and i could show you. I parked our stroller in this spot.

Ugh. It sounds like we are going to have a hassel with where to put a crib in the renovated room. Everyone raved that there were lots of places for it in the old rooms.

Well thanks so much, KimberlyC, for all the great info. If you figure out how to post those pictures, I would love to see them! I think folks use photobucket to post, but I have never done it.

Thanks again.
