Can you fill me in on your concierge experiences, please?

I am trying to decide between concierge and the some variation of the DDP.

There will be three of us... DH, me, and DD3.

Please keep in mind my experience is two years old already but the last time we were at the Poly we had booked a regular garden room and a package where we got free dining. When we checked in we were upgraded to concierge (I'm sure this does not happen often and would not count on it-there was alot of construction at the resort that summer). I can honestly say that we loved the dining program but felt there was just too much food when staying concierge.

Just so you know that we have stayed concierge in the past and never used their offerings in place of meals but in the summer when it is so hot, you usually don't eat as much anyway and many mornings the continental breakfast offered was more than enough, then we would have a sit down meal at the park for lunch and come back to the lounge for the evening offerings.

This summer we are visiting once again and I decided to ask the kids - GV room and dining plan or GVC and no dining plan. They all agreed they would rather stay conciege. Unfortunately, as luck would have it there are no concierge rooms available right now but I will keep trying back.

Good Luck!

Thanks... I am just so torn at this point. With my DD, I know the concierge breakfast woud work great-- fruit, oatmeal, cereal. And neither DH nor I am big breakfast eaters, so coffee and something light would work for us as well. And for her snacks post nap, the concierge options would be great as well. And after dinner, drinks on the balcony from concierge would make a nice end to the day. I guess the question is whether all of that is worth the additional $150 per night...

I'd love to hear others experiences as well!

we got complimentary upgraded to Concierge in Dec. 2006. We had the MK view. The room, the view and the entire experience was amazing. TBH though we really had to force ourselves to go to the lounge to eat... not because it was bad but because in Dec we usually get up early and go straight to the parks and stay all day. We never ate the lunch, and during a one week stay we used the lounge for dinner only 2 times. It was helpful for free water in the morning and some breakfast, but to me its not worth the extra money *unless* you are getting the Magic Kingdom view. I would never pay out of pocket for concierge if it wasn't a magic kingdom view. If you don't go to the parks all day every day and you spend time at the hotel alot then it may be worth it to you regardless of the MKV. I probably would not do the dining plan if i was doing the concierge, but that is because I am cheap!

It was a nice convenience for us because it was free, but i couldn't see paying the 150.0 a night xtra for something we used only 10% of the time we were there. But I am also on a limited budget... if money was not an issue then I would probably pay for concierge for the convenience.

I stayed in a GV concierge room last July for 7 nights and I loved it. I got a fantastic deal and I decided to splurge a little. I have stayed 3 times already at the Poly in the past, but it was always a GV room, which was fine by me.;) I actually got that concierge room cheaper than my previous garden view rooms. I looked at it as a once in a lifetime opportunity.

If I had to pay the going rack rate for room, I would have to say no. The food offerings were nice, fresh, and interesting at times. Having my morning coffee in the lounge and reading my paper while glancing out at the lagoon was wonderful. Chef Dick and his staff were fantastic as well. I just wouldn't pay a 150 dollars more a day, on top of the steep room rates that the Poly already has. If you have the money and are comfortable in spending it, then go for it. Staying in the Hawaii building makes the vacation go a lot easier and relieves a lot of stress. I do think that you're going to find the Dining plan and what the lounge serves, to be a bit much. You also have to keep track of the lounge hours as well, if you want to get that late night drink. The concierge desk and lounge are open from 7:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. Good luck with whatever you decide to do.:thumbsup2

I would have to agree that for your family concierge may not be worth the extra $150+ per night. I have a family of 5 with kids ages 14, 12, and 11. For us the breakfast and deserts at night (including a glass of wine for me which I wouldn't order otherwise) makes up the difference in cost alone.

We just returned Saturday from a stay at Poly. To our surprise we got a free upgrade to the conciege. We joked if we had known this we would not have purchased ddp. Breakfast was fruit, ceral, pastires and juices. Afternoon smacks was popcorn, chips and salsa, goldfish and etc. Evening was lettuce wraps, ribs...I don't remember alot of what was available between 5:00 and 7:00pm as we weren't at the hotel during that time. Late evening was just desserts. With all the food at the hotel, we didn't use all of our counter service options. Hope this helps

Thanks for the up to date info!

Is food available for the entire time the lounge is open? I know there are set times for certain types of food... but can we get beverages, fruits, snacks, etc any time?
