Boy oh boy--give me a little time to mull things over and I get myself into a heap of confusion! I need my DIS buddies to tell me what they would do in my shoes.

Right now I have a ressie for the Poly for this Sat (yeah, this Sat I know I am a lunatic!) for a GV room. We were moved there from POFQ so we are paying about $155/nite w/tax. I keep thinking about the Poly concierge and keep reading & re-reading every post about how great they are. So I thought, hmmmm...I wonder..............

Called this morning and they have GV concierge ( & LV too but I figured no way!) available for both nights. The xtra cost would be $174/nite more than what we are paying now. I hung up without booking it and said I would think about it for now. We are talking an extra $348.00 for 2 days.

Here's the details--this trip is for just DH & I, a little weekend getaway. We have APs so I booked a short trip when I got some great airfare. We are celebrating our 11th anniversary and DH's b-day while we are there plus celebrating his terrific recovery from a terrible accident months back.

I am thinking that the concierge would just make things that much more "special" (sorry for the bad grammar). However it is not like we'll be taking much advantage of the services like itinerary planning, etc....

If you were in my shoes what would you do??????????

I would keep the garden view room. Just think, with less money than what you would be paying extra for concierge, you could get some killer meals at WDW with much better food than at the concierge lounge.

Keep your great rate! There will always be another opportunity to do concierge.

Since you're asking: :)

I'd say that, for a trip of this length, you wouldn't get $348.00 of value out of the concierge - you'd be better off spending it on some dinner upgrades, an extra drink, etc. That is, unless the towel animals will enhance your anniversary celebration ;)

Note that my DW and I are heading to the Polynesian (first time there) for a delayed anniversary / first empty-nester WDW trip this fall, and we are doing LV concierge - at the FTP rates. We figure that, over 8 days, we'll take advantage of the goodies, get to know the conc. staff, use the PS services, etc. But I'll bet that, as long as you tell the appropriate people that you are celebrating, you'll get almost as nice treatment at the Polynesian, the parks and wherever you eat without concierge.

Congrats and have fun,
Erick

I would "go for it"

It is your anniversary after all... :D

It's 400.00 we are talking about here... not 4000.00! You can have a nice breakfast in the morning and enjoy your day at WDW.. if you plan to relax at the hotel you have sodas & other drinks included, snacks in the day, hot appetizers and other foods in the afternoon... and just imagine sharing some delcious desserts in the evening on your balcony with a bailey's :D

How romantic...

Happy Anniversay

I am by no means an expert on concierge (our first trip at this level will be in Nov.) but IMHO I could find many more romantic ways to spend $174/night. Maybe a beautiful dinner at a place you wouldn't normally choose with a nice "expensive" bottle of champange. We chose concierge on this trip for our family of 5 because of their itinerary planning, PS reservations and we also plan on spending more relaxing time at the resort this trip (it also was only $60/night more than a standard GV at the Polynesian).

I would also take the extra $300+ and go an buy myself something fantasitic to wear on this special trip.

Only you can decide if it is worth the $.

But from your post, it seems this is that special trip! Lots of "special" reasons to splurge.

Whichever you decide, I'm sure you'll have a wonderful time.
Happy Anniversary.

Not worth it! You have a great rate now. Spend the $348 on something else.

Skip it this time. Another opportunity will come along and be a better way to spend a longer vacation. IMHO you wont be thre long enough to enjoy the nearly $400 extra. Have a soecial mela like you would never have had if you didn't have $400. extra!

Ok-thanks for the thoughts everyone!

I guess I keep thinking, what will we miss out on if we don't do the Poly concierge when we have the chance. But many of you have said what I was thinking..we won't be there long enough to appreciate the concierge conveniences. We probably would have breakfast in the lounge on Sunday but besides that we wouldn't even use it really..we'll be off checking things out on our 1st adult only trip.

We don't drink alcohol and I am totally not eating desserts since I am losing weight so the evening cordials, etc.. don't really sway me towards booking it. I appreciate that many of you said "where would you spend the $$ if you don't spend it on the concierge level?". I guess I didn't think of it that way but I can think of lots of ways to spend it.

So I've decided to go ahead and keep things the way they are, and be happy that I am at the Poly at all! :) Thanks for the perspective guys!

If it were me- I'd skip the concierge- have champagne and roses ordered for our stay at check-in- have a real limousine pick us up at the airport (if you're flying in) or take my husband to the art store at MGM or on Main Street and have him pick out a sericel that commemmorates the trip--- we do this each time with the purpose of passing them on to our children on down the road... we have so much fun picking one out that fits their personality- and they'll see it in our house everyday and it reminds them of the trip- or there are a number of other items- blown glass, crystal, china- you name it- I'd much rather have a token we use or hang in the house to remind us of the special trip rather than some food and cordials- you can get those anytime...
Have a blast!!!
Tara
