Just booked Poly concierge Lagoon view for our first ever trip to WDW!Yipee
I am such a rookie, but trying to learn as much as I can as fast as I can on these fantastic boards:D We would like to request a room with a really good, unobstructed view of the castle-Does anyone have any suggestions on room#'s to request for this?
We are a family of 5,non-smoking (could do 3rd floor if best for view and not"smoky"),going May 5-8.
Any other tips you have for us are welcome also.
:D

We have LV booked for July. According to Tikiman, the best views on the 3rd floor would be 3505, or between 3512 and 3518. We are going 1st floor and he suggested 1505 or 1512-1518 for unobstructed views of the castle.

We had room 3517 and it was spectacular! So spectacular I found out later that another DISer regularly requests this particular room. We're not smokers and my dh is sensitive to the smell, and there was no problem. Same with my in-laws, who also had third floor. That room is the second to last down the hall I believe, so furthest from the lounge, but it's not a large building so that's not a problem. We would take the stairs on that end to walk to Ticket and Transportation Center.

We stayed in 3502 last September. It was wonderful. Perfect view of the castle and right next to the lounge. We had no problems with the room smelling like smoke. We loved it there!

Remember that although your room may not be smelling of smoke, people are allowed to and do smoke out on the 3rd floor balconies. We have stayed on the 3rd floor 3 times in the last year and had smokers on one side of us each time. I always post on this subject when it comes up because one time my non-smoking neighbor went ballistic hollering over our balcony to other neighbors who were smokers. Many smokers choose this floor because it is SMOKING-OPTIONAL. Have fun at the Poly! We love it.

People are permitted and DO smoke on the first floor patios!

Threehearts--I guess the guy/gal who went ballistic hasn't heard of the "smoking optional" provision of 3rd floor--quiet enjoyment is permitted there and I would be curious how the "offender" reacted when attacked. When we were in Hawaii building last, there was a guy right next door that smoked cigars every day in the afternoon before cocktails--always on the balcony. Thankfully, I'm one of those rare ducks that finds the cigar smoke smell pleasant--I'll bet your former neighbor would have blasted off on this poor guy! :D

I think we should all try to remember--it's a free society and smoking isn't against the law--also, there are places for smoking/not smoking and if you feel strongly about the matter one way or another--pick your place.

We choose 3rd floor despite the smoking optional status and typically it's not a problem at all--you do run the risk of being placed next to a "chimney" however. If that might bother you--staying on 1st or 2nd is a better option.

Tess,

When I request the third floor, I fully expect to be near smokers. The smokers who were my neighbors were very courteous and tried to smoke perhaps 4 or 5 cigarettes a day on the balcony. The reaction of my neighbors when the non-smoker neighbor went crazy was of embarrassment. They had properly chosen the right accomodation for smoking and they felt badly about the situation. Obviously it is difficult to be a smoker in these times but I do feel that if you choose and pay for a smoking room that you shouldn't be surprised mid-way through your holiday by a non'smoker's wrath. I used to smoke and I was terribly embarrassed by my bad habit. I tried to quit many times and finally did. I had a problem and it was through the encouragement of my husband that I managed to finally quit. If smoking bothers you I would seriously consider whether the third floor is a good choice. It is not the smoker's who made this floor smoking optional. it was Disney because they saw a market for these rooms.

I had not read before that the 1st floor patio's allowed smoking, I specifically requested this due to asthma, so that I would be as far from the 3rd floor as possible. Is this a rule of the poly?, conceriege buildings?, disney hotels in general?. I do believe (IMHO) that if its a non-smoking room, floor, that means in everything. Does the concerige lounge also allow smoking? But due to health reasons it is a very important issue & problem. Thanks for your info, we maybe re-thinking concerige? MKY :)

All non-smoking rooms still allow smoking on the patios and bacony's.

I too am asthmatic. I haven't been bothered by smoke on my balcony anywhere at WDW yet.

I'm been bothered a lot more by people who skoe in the theme parks in non-designated areas. Now THAT is annoying!

Its true that all nonsmoking buildings are really in the rooms themselves - or in the building itself;

but smoking is allowed on patios, balconys, outdoor paths and walkways so there is no way to be sure you get exactly what you need if you don't want to be around smoke.

In fact I often think the smoking around non smoking buildings is worse because there are so many people standing outside smoking along the doorways and paths.

I was actually told that there is NO smoking on balconies and patios of non-smoking rooms. I guess that was incorrect information or maybe you get what ever answer the CM feels like giving that day.

There is NO smoking allowed in the concierge lounge and the Polynesian is actually reducing the amount of smoking optional rooms. The Tuvalu longhouse use to be all smoking optional. Now it is smoking optional on the 3rd floor only. The only smoking optional longhouse now is Samoa. Too bad because it is in such a great spot.

Ducklite. I am with you on the smoking in the parks stuff. Feel free to smoke where others don’t mind the pollution but don’t pollute my air please. I want to be going to WDW with my kids.

Steve

The first and second floors are nonsmoking, the third smoking optional. It may well be in the spirit of the rule that folks aren't supposed to smoke on patios on the first floor BUT there aren't cigarette police that stop people from smoking on the patio outside their room.

Tikiman is absolutely correct, there is no smoking in any common area in concierge. There are ashtrays outside all doors (not sure about 3rd though) for people to extinguish before entering. I haven't really found all that many people smoking on the third floor--occasionally an odor of tobacco as we walk down the hall--not frequently.

I, personally, am not bothered by adults smoking and recognize in making my 3rd floor choice that there will be those who indulge. Does that mean I want to be in a smoke-filled room--no, but if I want to be on 3rd, then I accept the "optional" basis of the rooms. Likewise, poolside and beachside or anywhere else outside on any resort property, people are free to smoke at will.

As to the smoking in the park issue--that's another story and I'm not going there on this thread.

back on the topic of lv rooms, we stayed at Poly concierge lv twice, and we had room 3503 and 3508, both had spectacular views of the Castle!!! the view is so beautiful, it includes the Castle, beach, lagoon, space mtn., tiki torches... it is an extraordinary view, perhaps the best in WDW!

I think there may just be a few room sin the middle that might be a little obstructed by palm trees, but there are many rooms w/perfect views! I'd just request an unobstructed view!
and I love the third floor, the balconies are great,
and no, I've never smelled smoke on the third floor.

have an awesome time!!! :) I'll be in WDW the same time as you!
staying at the BWV and the YC concierge! :)

Laura :)
