We are booked at the Poly in December, for 8 nights. There will be 5 of us, and I am thinking about trying to book concierge.

I know we will benefit from the breakfast, since we don't tend to eat a big meal then. I'm sure we'll also have some breaks where we'll enjoy the snacks or stuff around the dinner hour. The truth is, though, I don't believe we would really "get our moneys worth" from the food.

The reason I am thinking about concierge is the access to the lounge. I thought it would give us some extra "space", to relax, to read a book or play cards, or just get away from each other!

Is the lounge open all day, or just for the snacks? Are you able to "hang out" in the lounge? Is there a tv (or two)?

I thought, for example, if dd and I want to take a nap, dh could go into the lounge with older ds and relax. Things like that.

Any thoughts?

Julia

You have exactly the right attitude about concierge; I don't think you can justify the extra cost with the food alone, but there are so many other benefits. The lounge is open in between food service times; it's a great place to "get away" and there is no better view than the panorama from the huge windows in the Poly CL. We love to sit and watch the monorail travel from GF to MK to CR, the boats on SSL, the castle changing colors... The concierge CMs are also tremendously helpful when you need to make last minute plans, changes or just need some advice on dining or entertainment. Plus, the CMs at Poly concierge will have you feeling like "family" in no time. Check out the Concierge Lounge thread to get a feel for what concierge can offer.

We are frequent flyers at the Poly Conc. and you are the perfect family for concierge. It isn't intended to be a full meal service. The physical space is wonderful and you can see the fireworks from there or you can go down to the beach(balcony if LV). I think you'd love it. Hve fun!! Threehearts

I always say go for the CL when you fill the room with max guests. It's at least more cost effective, though no bargain. I could almost justify it by the diet coke my husband drinks!!!!!! We ate breakfast everyday, snacks somedays and even made meals from the appetizers (we are not big eaters) we would get one small (only size plate) of cold stuff veggies, cheese and one plate of hot stuff.

Here is my 11 year old's take on it from another thread.

well just to let you know im 11 ( almost 12 ) and the polinesian is the best!! and im also 1 of 3. i have 2 sisters. one is 13, one is 11 ( thats me ) and one is 4. it is worth the money but it is better if you spent it on the conceairge too. me and my big sister just hung at the conceairge,to relax for when we come back from one of the parks. it is worth the money! we got free food there too. my sister got hooked on the hot chocolate. if you want my honest opinion i thought the pool was cool. but the pool is so crowded! we barley went in the pool. when you arrive at the hotel, one of the peoples takes you, your stuff, and your family on the little cart ( sorta like a golf cart ) and drives you to your hotel room. its fun. well i hope you have fun @ the poly!

Do they serve bottled sodas in the lounge, or is it fountain service? I am also a diet coke addict, and free access to indulge my "habit" would be a treat!

You can get them anytime you want and it is in cans. My DH would always take a couple and put one in the fridge.

When we first considered the Lounge, we tried to justify the added expense by meal savings. We found you still come up short even by eliminating your breakfast expense at the Lounge (and it's plenty big enough) and perhaps a lunch or two even though it might be light.

But its the convience factor that cannot be accurately tabulated, especially if you have children...they are always hungry and the Lounge satisfies that for you without being heckled by your young ones need of food (though they just ate a $50 meal 30 minutes ago).

Space and personal time is awesome - often I slip down to read the paper or make plans for the day while the room is in chaos or people are sleeping.

Sum up...If you can afford it, I beleive you'll be pleased with the extra dollars spent.

How many people can you book in a concierge room? And, how many beds? There will be 6 of us...DH, myself, DD5, DS3 and grandparents. Or, is that too many? Would it be cheaper to get 2 GV rooms versus 1 concierge? Or, can that many fit in 1 concierge?

Your reasons are why we have been staying concierge the last four years.
I tend to wake very early and the lounge is perfect. I can go have my coffee and not bother anyone. At night if one of us wants to stay up late we can go to the lounge also.

You'd need to get two rooms or book a suite.

How much do the suites run per night? Would it be cheaper or more expensive for 6 people to get a suite versus to GV rooms?

I don't know for certain, but my guess is two non-CL GV rooms will run less than a suite. You might want to look at the deluxe rooms/jr. Suites at the WL, they sleep six, and would be less than two GV PR rooms, although they don't get concierge service either.
