Poly Concerns!!

Just my 2 cents….If you are that worried and stressed about any resort than switch now, otherwise you are going into it with the wrong attitude already.

I will also say that if you want to stay at a resort that does not have plumbing issues, rude CMs, lost luggage or any other problems than you might have a tough time finding one.

Sorry if this sounds rude, I just think you should be staying somewhere you are excited about before you go.

Thank you for the response(s) and I realize that things that may happen to one person may not happen to another, which is why there are different opinions to share.

We are always excited about returning to WDW, which is why we go back time and time again. The Polynesian has been a dream resort to me for so many years which is why I have been following all the threads regarding this resort. I have stayed at several Disney Resorts and lucky me, have not encountered even the slightest problem.

I plan on having a magical vacation no matter what....I just want to have a back up plan just in case the worst scenario happens.

The Poly is a beautiful resort and I am very much looking forward to seeing all that it has to offer.

I don't care one bit of all the negative reviews! I know after many, many trips to the Poly that it is a fabulous resort! I was just there for 14 days in June/July and had nothing go wrong! It was perfect as usual. We are going again for 12 days the end of this month and I am not worried about it at all. I am going to have a wonderful trip and I'm sure you will see just why the Poly has so many more people that find a great resort!

Yup, you missed something. There have been several threads in the last few days detailing plumbing and CM problems. You might do a search or go back a few pages and you'll find them.

She didn't miss anything. There are 3 posters that had toilet trouble. No big deal. I certainly would't worry one bit about it. You will have a wonderful time!

We jsut got back and LOVED the CMs (and the toilet :thumbsup2 ). We never encountered any rudeness of any kind...only smiles and Alohas everywhere we turned.

You have to experience it for yourself.

Aloha! :sunny:

I'm sorry, but she did. She specifically said she'd seen ONLY ONE post referring to problems. I merely advised her there had been more.

We stayed at the Poly in July for the first time and absolutely loved it so much that we've all decided we'll be going there on our next trip, too. The CMs were great all the way around. The rooms are lovely. The grounds are beautiful. The location is perfect. We loved the restaurants, (even the temporary Captain Cook's is pretty good). And I have high expectations of hotels and restaurants, but really, the Polynesian is super nice. Relax and enjoy your vacation. I wish we were going again soon!

The only inconvenience was that Captain Cook's was closed. But if you're staying at a resort for the fast food restaurant, you should probably stay at one of the Value resorts.
You're kidding, right? I'm sure NOBODY is staying there for the "fast food restaurant". However, if it wasn't something that appealed to families (especially those with picky kids and those that appreciate refillable mugs), I highly doubt Disney would leave it in place.

Hi, I just wanted to say that my experience at the POLY topped any experience we have had staying at the POR or at POFQ. And we loved the two moderates. We had just never had CMs be so nice to us anywhere else. We got a wonderful upgrade from standard to a room with the view of the fireworks and castle - changed color all night! Our plumbing worked just fine. We stopped using the fast food cafe as soon as we discovered Kona in the Lodge. The best breakfast I have had anywhere in the park - and you can grab coffee and rolls or fruit there to go if you want to.

Best of all though is watching the Electric Water Parade from the beach or watching the fireworks from there. Lots of little excited kids but not so crowded you can't see. I loved the grounds - they were beautiful. And I loved being able to hop on the monorail. I was disappointed we were there too early for the reburbished rooms with the flat panel TVs and stuff, but it was still magical!

We stayed at the AK once and found it too far from everything, though gorgeous. The rooms there are also very small and POLY has the largest rooms on site, I believe. AK rooms were also dark, though being able to watch giraffes from your room is pretty darned magical.

Anyway - stick with the POLY. I am sure you will love it!

We just returned from a stay at the Poly 8-7 to 8-11. It was truly a magical vacation. From the moment we drove in it was great. I was not sure before we left due to some of the negative things I read on here. We had previously stayed at the Poly in 2003 but I had never heard about the Dis boards back then. You can read every kind of review on these boards. My best advice is to go into your vacation with an open mind. I think if you do this you will be pleasantly surprised.

I don’t think the reports that were posted about the negative issues were opinion. In fact I take those reports seriously and I feel that those posters gave a very honest and accurate report. I think the idea everyone is trying to communicate is that problems can happen anywhere but if you see the majority of reports about resorts they are by far positive. I myself have fallen into the worry about a trip after reading things and so far every bad thing I have read has not happened to me once I got there.

Part of the fun of going is the anticipation of going. Don’t let any report rob you of that.

I'm not worried and we're not switching. In 23 days, Poly here we come! I read this same kind of stuff about GF right before we stayed there for the first time. The chief complaint had to do with snooty CM's. But in our experience the CM's were over the top nice, to the point they made our stay even more magical. I tell you this because I don't want you to change resorts. Give Poly a try for yourself. You might be pleasantly surprised. And if something does go wrong, ask that it be corrected on the spot. I am sure they will accomodate you. :goodvibes

While it isn't my favorite resort, I've stayed at the Poly several times (last time was in June.) I've never had any plumbing problems...or really any problems at all!

I'm going to the Poly in 12 days! Whoo HOOOO!! My 1st visit to the Motherland! I'm a Disneyaholic and I am so looking foward to my Polynesian vacation! I'm not worried a bit. If I experience any rude CM's I will sprinkle them with pixiedust: . If my toilet doesn't flush... who cares!! I'm in Disney World!!! :cheer2: :cheer2:
Everything will be great... have a great attitude and let me know how much you loved it!!

Believe me, if your toilet doesn't flush at 11:30 p.m. and you have 3 kids who have spent all day in the hot parks and all you want to do is sleep and be able to go to the bathroom when you have to through the night, you're not going to be too cheery after the 3rd night of it.

Anyway, hopefully it was just one bad toilet (like I said, stay away from Room 1703). You will love the Poly no matter what. The resort theming really does take you away.

Hmmmm... you have a point. Although, I, personally, wouldn't wait 3 days to resolve it. If I had any sort of problem, I would report it to guest relations immediately. pixiedust:

I have no intentions of changing resort.

If the plumbing is a problem in our room there will be calls made until it is fixed or I am moved to another room.

Rude CM's, I deal with being sugary nice to, and hopefully they will realise that their attitude was uncalled for .... has worked in the past for me, usually there is a realisation coming over their face and they at least smile ....

I do enjoy this resort, and with every breath I feel myself relaxing more and more and feel the stress leaving me ........ ahhhhh, soon very soon, I'll be there.

I'm sorry I didnt' get to read this entire thread...just the OP post.

I just wanted to say that we spent a week at the Poly in late July this year. We had nothing but magic from the time our toes hit the Poly's pavement! Everyone we encountered was fantastic...truly. (our only problem was our dark bathroom...lol)

Somehow...I think folks go with certain expectations...regarding their hotel...their room requests...the parks...dinners...etc. I go with the attitude that I'm going to have a great day no matter what. I always greet anyone I meet with a smile...and if I do have a complaint...I do it nicely. I have seen folks totally losing their cool at hotels...parks...etc. In the long run, they would have done better had they used some honey rather than all that vinegar. You CAN complain politely but some folks just don't get that.

I guess my thoughts are...there are wars going on daily in other countries...our men/women die fighting those wars...people are starving...people die everyday and never have a chance to see Disney. My family and I are very fortunate that we do and I count my blessings everyday. (so...if my room request isn't met..or my bathroom is dark...so what...there are a lot worse things...)

I think this is by far one of the best posts I have seen on the resort board :thumbsup2
