Poly Bungalos, boat horns honking all night?

Hi all,

I was talking to a neighbor who stayed at Poly bungalows and said their stay was terrible. According to him, the boat horns honk ALL NIGHT and they couldn't get any sleep.

Has anyone else experienced this? The bungalows are on my dream bucket list but I wouldn't want to stay there if the boat horns honking all night is the norm.

They seem like an amazing place to stay for a spectacular MK fireworks view, can anyone tell me what the fireworks view is like from the bungalows?

As far as I know, your neighbor exaggerates. Boats don't run all night. No boats, no horns.

They honk from before the MK opens until a couple hours after the MK closes. If you are there when the MK closes really late, you COULD have the boats honking a good chunk of the night and then again early in the morning. I have a friend who drives the ferry boat from the TTC to the MK and he says they are required to honk the horns. He says he feels bad sometimes because it can be really early or really late, and he has to honk the horn right by the bungalows.

We stayed in a bungalow 1/2016. Our bungalow was the closest to the dock. My boys slept in the living room, and did not hear a sound. They are pretty heavy sleepers. I remember being a little concerned about the horns, especially since we were right next to the dock, but they did not bother any of us. Hope this helps.

There have been several reports since they opened of complaints about the boat horns. So your neighbors aren't the first. I bet a search here would turn up some threads about it

Wouldn't bother DH and I, we wear ear plugs. Granted, we'll never stay there either

We met some people who had stayed in the bungalows and said that the boat horns drove them crazy. The boat runs until an hour after closing and one night they didn't stop until 2am.

Do the boats run late some nights? Yes. Do the boats use their horns while running? Yes. Will it be a problem for everyone? No. I know 4 families that stayed in the Bungalows, 3 didn't notice them at all and the other said it was an annoyance.

The boat horns from Poly Bungalows / rooms near the water are one of the more inconsistent opinions you'll read around here - some say it is horrible and some say they don't notice them. As others have said, MK hours will determine how late they toot.

We haven't stayed in a Bungalow but do often stay CL in the Hawaii building facing the Bungalows. We love the boat noises from both the Poly resort launch and the MK ferry. To be honest we crack the balcony door just to let the sound in - to me it's all a part of the 'buzz' of being on the 7 Seas Lagoon.

Given the proximity of the bungalows to the TTC, it's not surprising that the sounds of the ferries are pretty pronounced. Boat horns are a fact of life on any large body of water. During our Poly stays, we've never been disturbed by them. Granted, we haven't stayed at the bungalows, but we've stayed in Hawaii longhouse and sometimes keep our slider cracked open. I also live in a coastal community. Even a mile from the harbor, depending on weather conditions, on some evenings we can hear the boat horns. We're used to it, I guess. It's just part of the atmosphere. Guests considering a stay in the bungalows should probably examine their own personal tolerance for them. Not sounding the boat horns isn't an option; they're necessary for safety, especially during reduced visibility like nighttime or early morning fog/mist.

We loved hearing the boats honk by during the day, but never heard a peep from them past 11 or so. Granted, this was back in January, so the park hours were shorter. Follow your dream to the Bungalows, but follow them in the off-season!

The firework view was spectacular, but my family truly enjoyed the electrical water pageant. It came almost right up to the Bungalow! If you're planning to go when the nights are generally warmer, grab a drink and a dole whip before the show starts and watch Happily Ever After and the Electrical Water Pageant both from the comfort of your little Bungalow pool and deck.

My advice to you would be to not let the possibility of boat horns waking you up during the night ruin your dream. Staying in a Bora Bora Bungalow was honestly a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for my family and we enjoyed every minute of it.

I agree. I wouldn't give up the opportunity to stay in a Bungalow if I had the chance.

We live on a busy street with constant noise, including a neighbor who sets off fireworks like it's his job. We can't sleep well in a quiet environment. We'd probably love the boat sounds. For those that need silence, I would suggest ear plugs. I have to wear them sometimes when hubby snores.

Never stayed at the bungalows but have stayed at Hawaii (and at a holiday inn the other night ) the rooms/sliding glass doors are pretty sound proofed so boat horns aren't that pronounced. Though you can still hear them. Frankly they don't bother me that much and I think it adds to the charm of staying there.

They definitely don't run all night though - 2 hours after MK closing and usually an hour before opening.

As my wife would say..... if you are not in the parks till closing then you aren't doing it right haha...

The boats don't run too much later than the park closings so it shouldn't be too much of an inconvenience.

My husband and I stayed in the Moorea building just behind the bungalows in May. I was also concerned about this when we were making our plans. I think it just depends on your sound sensitivity. I did not notice the horn, even when I was awake, but I had a train in my backyard as a child and do not notice sounds anymore. My husband sleeps so lightly that he would hear a feather fall on the ground. He used earplugs (he sleeps with ear plugs every night anyway) and the horns never bothered him. I second the suggestion to take ear plugs for the light sleepers in your group and also you could request one of the bungalows farther away from the TTC.
