I'm staying at the Poly for the first time this October. I booked a gardenview room and requested non smoking and something close to the GCH. I am traveling with my mother who can't walk too much and I don't want to burn her out before we even get to the parks! Anyway, after looking at the resort map I've narrowed my choices down to two buildings. They are Nuie and Rapatongo. Both are close to the GCH, non smoking, and garden views. Has anyone stayed at either of these buildings and have a preference? I would like to get the highest floor possible as I am also bringing a toddler who has a habit of bolting out of doors. I don't want to be chasing her from the patio every time I turn my back. I figure the 2nd and 3rd stories have balconies or at least railings. That is my next question. Are there 3rd stories on these two buildings and/or are there balconies? I know these are only requests and not guarantees! Thanks for any info you can give me! :)

First off, the definitive source for all things Polynesian is Tikiman's website: http://tikiman2001.homestead.com/

But my wife and kids and I just came back from Rarotonga several days ago, so I'll fill in as a poor second in the meantime.

Rarotonga, I can say with some certainty, has three floors -- we stayed on the third floor. The third floor rooms have balconies; ground floors have patios. Second floors have nada. The balconies do have what I would call child-safe railings; we let our four-year old out there. We stayed on the quiet pool side and thoroughly enjoyed the location.

Niue, as I recall, had two floors. I think... seemed like a very nice building as well, and could well stay there in the future. Ground-floor poolside... works for me.

Honestly, either building should work for you -- try not to stress over it too much. You'll enjoy yourselves wherever you end up. :)

Thanks so much for the quick response. I couldn't tell by the pics in Tikimans website whether Rarotonga had two or three floors so your answer was much needed! I'm trying not to stress too much but that is such a great part of the planning stage which I love! Since a balcony would be nice, I might just have to request Rarotonga with a balcony. Can't hurt to ask. I don't care whether we face one side or the other although the quiet pool sounds great. Did you put in any requests to get that building and floor or was it all luck? Thanks again!:D
