Poly at $624 for NewYears or Dolphin at $230?

Sounds pretty cut and dried to me. Unless you're planning on staying in your room on NYE, I'd go with the Dolphin for the cheaper price. Why pay a premium price just for sleeping?

This year will be our third NYE at the Dolphin - best value at WDW. Walking distance to Epcot and boat ride to MGM. You can watch midnight fireworks at both parts simultaneously from the Dolphin beach!

The Poly is nice - but it could hardly justify much more than a 20% premium over the Dolphin, let alone a 300% premium. I will never cease to be amazed that Disney can fill regular old hotel rooms at those prices, monorail or not.

Stayed at the Dolphin this past June. Never stayed at the Polynesian but I have stayed in a GF Lagoon View room. It was nice but not worth $800 to me! But that said, it depends on what it is worth to you. If it is a once in a lifetime trip, then I might justify the price difference. If not, I would feel alot beter about saving $800!

Well,

I finally made up my mind and decided to stay at the Dolphin for New Years. The price of the Poly was really steep( $624 a night) but what got me were posters telling me I could have my patio crowded with other people who come to see the fireworks and that the grounds of the Poly would be jammed. I was hoping for a quieter time and was not going to go into the parks to avoid the crowds:) I am still sad about cancelling my first Poly trip but the positive is that I will have to plan another trip there soon. I also know I will wnjoy staying at the BCV and then switching to the Dolphin. We have stayed at the Dolphin several times in the past and really enjoy it. I am an Epcot resort addict! Thanks to everyone who gave me advise. For any of you who are staying in a Poly Lagoon room on New Years eve.... I'm still a little bit jealous:)

Have a Happy New Year @ the Dolphin...I think your Name says you made the right choice! Enjoy!

Personally, I would pick the Dolphin anyday!!! Especially at the rates that you would be paying at the Poly. The Dolphin is perfect. You can head over to Epcot or MGM, have a few drinks and not have to worry about getting around anywhere...you can walk back to your hotel and not worry about the mobs that will be using the transportation! Either way, though, have a magical time!

Thanks for the kind thoughts:)

denman007...You are killing me with that picture:( If I could have the empty chairs on the beach that are in one of your other pictures , I would stay at the Poly for New Years despite the cost........I going to start planning for another vacation:)

Don't feel too bad about the Polynesian for this year.

Keep in mind that we had 4 major hurricanes down here in this neck of the woods. At least three of them directly impacted people's vacation plans at Disney.

As a result, the rest of the season has been more crowded, as those who cancelled earlier are now coming back to enjoy their previously disrupted plans.

All reports indicate that this year has seen unseasonably high crowds as compared to the previous 3 years.

Given the concern of staffing shortages due to the pending strike, the reported lack of coordinated crowd control at the Polynesian during such events and the attraction of the viewpoint, I be willing to suggest that anyone with a 1st floor lagoon view may be in for a shock with the crowds.

For the ~ $625 you would have paid and the difference you'll be spending on partying, I think you'll have a great time regadless.

I'd rather have access to my own personal balcony than leave things to chance.

And again, on your worst day there you'll still be at Disney. It's win-win from there.

Good choice! The Dolphin is a beautiful resort and staying at an Epcot resort is the best!

I love the Polynesian and that LV! We have been several years for the 4th of July. But....those crowds are horrible and believe me they show no mercy. I have had people(we had no clue who they were) on my patio in our LV room in Hawaii. They will even take your furinture off the patio.

So, for those prices yep I would take the Dolphin and plan your NY accordingly you will have a blast with the money your saving.

Take the money and RUN all the way from the Poly to the Dolphin!
