Yes because I would always offer coffee with dessert. But I wouldn't think less of someone that didn't serve it.

I saw another poster suggested that what applies to her, and to me as well, is the word assume. I assume it would be served but would not mind if it was not. We alwyas have a pot going in my house, or at least the Kuerig ready to go, so for us it is part of the meal.

On the age thing - I'm one of the ones who don't offer coffee in the evening and I'm in my late 40's.

I like to have coffee with dessert, but I don't EXPECT it. A lot of my friends don't drink coffee.

:rotfl: I am hostessing a rehearsal dinner. I keep asking questions hoping (beyond belief LOL!) that the majority here will say something like "Oh dont worry about that!" LOL but I keep being wrong. :

I think you needed to write this in your first post. It makes a difference. The event dictates the different expectations.

At a friend's home, for a casual dinner, no, I do not expect or assume anything.

For a more formal dinner, or a large, formal event like a rehearsal dinner, (even at one's house,) I would assume it would be offered, as there are way more people, and it is usually offered with dessert for something like that type of event.

Would I get into a snit if it wasn't offered? No.

Thanks to everyone for taking time to reply to my silly little questions. Its really helpful to be able to ask a wide range of folks these things when you just have no idea what to do.
I think I will be serving, or at least offering coffee with the cake. I want it to be nice, and it sounds like enough people would like coffee.
(I personally would rather have a cold diet Pepsi in a can, but I know that woudlnt fly with 99% of the people ;))

:flower3:

Now I normally don't drink coffee at night but I would prefer it with cake and not pepsi. ;)

Agree with PP, a rehearsal dinner would have the expectation of coffee with cake.

So make the coffee already & now I want a cup.....:rotfl:

OH and I am changing my answer on your poll. If I knew it was a rehearsal dinner, I would have marked yes and not no.

Just fyi... knowing that it's a rehearsal dinner doesn't change my answer. If we're having dessert, I'd much rather be offered something that tastes good to drink with my dessert than something that tastes like coffee :p

Nope, never. It's weird to me to drink something hot with dessert. Usually I just want water.

With the really sweet things, milk is ideal to me.

The occasion makes a difference. Rehearsal dinner? Yes, coffee with dessert. Casual dinner at a friends house? No need for coffee.

I don't expect it after diiner. My in-laws, however, do.

I wouldn't drink it anyway. Too much caffeine too late isn't really great for sleeping.

Update: I made a big pot and had sugar cubes, those little flavored creamers in single serve packs, a bottle of sugar free vanilla and regular caramel and milk.... and ONE PERSON wanted coffe. :lmao:
There were about 30 people there.
ONE had coffee.

:confused3 You just never know. Im glad I had it for that one lady.

Well, you still get points for having offered it. :thumbsup2 :goodvibes

Next time, you can also ask ahead of time, before making a pot. "Would anyone like coffee wih dessert? I can make a fresh pot." :)
