I belong to Costco, but until I moved to FL I was a member at Sam's Club. Costco's food selections work better for me, the stores are cleaner and brighter, and the Kirkland store brand is fantastic. There's also a good selection of wine and beer.

The tipping point for deciding which one I'd get a membership to here was Costco's policies regarding their employees. Costco pays a living wage (according to the Wall Street Journal, their average wage is $15.97/hour), with health insurance, profit sharing and 401K plans available to ALL employees, even part timers. I'd rather support a company that treats its employees well than one which is widely known not to.

I have memberships to both. Sams is closer so I go quite abit there. I do much prefer Costco though. Better quality of food, I like their produce better. But alot of times I stop by Sam's in the morning before work. I get free coffee and usually a full size sample of something. Also the have meat marked down that expires that day. I just stick in fridge at work and bring home and cook that evening.

I said Sam's. I like Sam's flower department a lot. I also like their bakery and their meat. (Why is WalMart's meat so yucky?) I also love their samples, their frozen cheesecake and their electronics prices.

Costco does have nicer furniture though and their stores seem brighter.

I have had memberships at them all in the past 3 years, and I like BJ's the best.

Another Costco family here. We only have 3 here in the Twin Cities metro, but there is strong possiblity we might get another one that will be very close to us, which would rock. The meat at Costco is way better than any of the meat we have tried from Sam's plus I gotta have my churros.

We checked out both Costco and Sam's before buying a membership, and went with Sam's. They have better prices on more of a selection of items that we buy, and the store is more convenient to where we live.

Ditto what she said.

I do like the Sam's business hours, except last time when it was VERY busy during those hours. Neither our local Sam's or Costco have gas. Sometimes I drive to a different Costco about 1/2 or so away and that is a very nice store--not too crowded, newer, easy to park, and they have gas. I can't do that all the time, however.

I prefer Sam's. We had a Costco membership years ago but didn't renew it as we seemed to buy more from Sam's. Sam's is also closer to us, so that is a big plus.

Sam's is 20 minutes away, Costco is an hour and a half. I like Sam's because I can't justify driving that far to buy whatever Costco has that's different/better than Sam's. It probably would cost about $20 to get there and back, besides.
