I usually get a Sams Club membership but I am considering Costco this year. Which club do you prefer and why?

I prefer Costco because of the produce. They are comprable in most other respects but Costco's produce is absolutely wonderful.

I actually like it better for other reasons too but since you don't have to worry about them(my family), that's my story and I'm sticking to it. :teeth:

Costco!!!!

I like the choices of food! The chicken is like 10 lbs for 14 dollars!!!

Milk is cheap, charcoal, birthday cake is 14.99 for a huge cake! I don't have enough friends for it!

Tires were cheap there too. Cheaper to get a costco membership and two tires than to get two tires at NTB.

I have a Sam's membership because the card is cheaper and because it is more convenient for us to get gasoline at, but I like Costco better. It is cleaner, has better customer service, shorter lines, etc. Product-wise they seem about the same, each having things I like that the other doesn't (e.g. good, inexpensive coffee beans at Costco).

I always say that Costco is to Sam's what Target is to Walmart, if that makes any sense. There is a need for both, but I enjoy going to one more than the other.

I go to Costco with my mom :goodvibes.

Another Costco gal here.
Cake yummy...good.
Coffee smells...good.
(And if you go on a "sample" day, it's dinner!)
So far the milk has been the cheapest around (and with 4 kidos, we go through the milk!) and the gas has been running around 20-25 cents cheaper there.

I've been a member of both, but I voted for Sam's Club.

For me, it's all about the convenience. Right now, Sam's Club is most convenient in terms of location. While there is also a Costco nearby, the parking lot is a nightmare and is enough to scare me away.

As someone else said, Sam's membership is slightly cheaper (I think $5).

Product-wise, in my area, they are very similar in terms of selection and cost. The only thing I wish Sam's had that was as good as Costco are the salads. While Sam's has ready-to-go salads, the quality is not as good as Costco's, but it's a small thing.

The other big thing Costco has going for them in my area is a gas station with cheap gas! However, I know Sam's Club has gas stations in other states (like Las Vegas -- that's where we fill gas when we're there).

Sam's hours are also better, at least here in Hawaii. Costco closes early on Saturday, Sam's doesn't. Sam's business membership hours are better too, and it's pretty easy to qualify for a business membership here.

Costco is my choice, when I'm able to choose! Closest one is in orlando. So its at least 40 mins away.

I just assume NOT giving the wal-mart franchise any more of my money if I don't have to. To me the only good thing about wal-mart is that it draws all the attention away from my SuperTarget :teeth: :teeth: :teeth:

OHHHHHHH!!!! I forgot this one too!! That's the only reason I like the 3 Walmarts so close together....MY Super Target is less crowded!!

We went into Walmart on Friday before going into Costco (they share a parking lot :guilty: ) and we have now made our quota of seeing the inside of Walmarts this year!!

Other....I have BOTH!

I prefer Costco over Sam's because it is cleaner, nicer, has more prepared meals.

I prefer Sam's over Costco because of the bakery, and household cleaners & goods.

(no BJ's here to compare)

We don't have a BJ's, are they the same as Sams and Costco?

I have memberships to both. I prefer Costco, but Sams is far less crowded and the lines aren't nearly as bad as Costco.

We have 3 Costcos in the Orlando area and several Sams. I much prefer Costco as the quality is better on everything especialy the meats and produce.
Costco is also cleaner and has much better customer service than Sams or BJ's.

I prefer the meats at Sams over Costco and I like the clothes at Sams better. Costco however has alot of their own products that are really good. I belong to Sams, Costco and BJ's. BJ's being the worst of the 3.

We've belonged to both and I voted for Costco! Like other posters have mentioned, it is so much cleaner and just an all around nicer shopping experience. Gotta love the samples!

I also think that their products are of a much better quality. I've been very impressed with the Kirkland products we've tried. On the other hand, I avoided the Sam's Club brand products (can't remember what they were called) like the plague!

However, I must say that the thing that really nudged me into the Costco camp was a report on 20/20 a few months ago about Costco and its CEO. The guy is super down to earth (you should have seen his bare bones office) and makes it a point to treat their employees very well. I read somewhere else that there business philosophy is to put employees first, and then stockholders and customers after that, with the idea that if you have happy and committed employees that it will impact your bottomline. It's just so opposite of the Walmart/Sam's Club business model! I prefer to spend my money at a store like Costco.

I belong to both - Sam's is very close - I have to pass it to go pretty much anywhere, so it's convenient for gas & early morning runs w/ my DH business membership.

Costco has a larger variety of many things - especially deli type prepared foods, but it's a good 20-30 min drive for me. Some things I can only get at Costco, and some identical things are much cheaper at Costco.

There are no Costco's in my state, but if I am ever out of town I will make sure to go to Costco and stock up. I have a Sams membership, but I think that the overall selection is much better at Sams. I also prefer to support Costco versus Sams (Walmart).
