Poll: May or July wedding/honeymoon?

Should we get married and have our Disneymoon in May or July?

  • May - nicer weather and less crowds in WDW

  • July - it would be so special to get married on our real anniversary

Ok, here is my dilemma: FI and I are trying to decide on a date for our 2010 wedding. We are having our wedding up in NJ and honeymooning in Disney (of course!) I always knew I wanted to go to Disney for my honeymoon and we are so excited! We always knew that we wanted to marry during the warm weather. Also, because the reception hall we like is on the pricey side, we are having the wedding on a Friday night and then will leave for Disney the following Sunday. Here is our dilemma: May 14th or July 16th? If we have it in May, we will have a spring wedding with spring flowers and the weather in Disney will be not as hot as summer and not as crowded. Plus we could see the Epcot flower and garden festival. (Also we won't be travelling on Memorial Day weekend.) On the other hand, July 16th would be the exact 5 year anniversary of our first date. The downside is the disgusting Florida heat, the afternoon thunderstorms, and the crowds! A July wedding is cheaper than May, but a Disney honeymoon is cheaper in May than July.

If it was your choice what would you do? I'm really really torn! I always pictured a Spring wedding but it would be so special to wed on our actual anniversary, too.

Take it from someone who honeymooned at WDW in July, don't do it!!:lmao:
Seriously, it is humid, hot and really hard to deal with. The crowds and tour groups are out of control. I swore after that I would never go to WDW in July again. Well, last year on our 11th anniversary, I guess it was enough time for my memory of just how bad July is fade. So we went to WDW and it was just so hot and crowded. It was OK that time because we were only there for 3 days, and we didn't leave the room for much other than dinner.;) So, if that's how you will spend your honeymoon, then do it in July. If you want to go to the parks, get married in May. Keep in mind NJ will be hot in July too. I'm from NY and the day we got married was really hot. Remember you will be in a heavy gown and with the heat it could be uncomfortable. I think May is a fantastic time to get married in NJ and honeymoon at WDW. WDW in May is really nice, much better than July.

Congrats on your upcoming wedding and good luck!

Im going to go against the grain. FI and I starting dating in July, went to Dis on our first "anniversary" in July, are getting married in July and will Dismoon in July. Your honeymoon is one trip. Your wedding date is forever. FI and I will be getting married on our 5 year anniversary of being together. As I walk down that aisle I know Ill be thinking about holding hands all silly at Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory movie 5 years ago to that date! :rotfl: How special and romantic. Not to mention for your anniversary every year you might not go to Disney you might go to Italy, Cruise, NYC ...whatever. I just think...think about whats most special in your heart.

I go to WDW around my birthday (May 16th) every year (except last LONG story). It's beautiful! I have nothing bad to say about Florida in May.

But July? On top of all that icky weather and crowds you forgot the chance of a hurricane! It's really remote that time of year, but there's always a chance.

I say All the Way May! (League of their Own reference!) :rotfl:

Our wedding cruise is leaving on our 5 year anniversary. It was totally coincidental. It just turned out it was the cheapest time to go during the time frame that we wanted.

I think a big part of your decision has to do with what you plan to do at disney. If you are planning to hit the parks hard then May is def better. There is just nothing worse then standing in line in the heat in the middle of the summer. If you are planning to hang by the pool a lot and spend some time in the spa and restaurants then July could be just as nice.

I am sure that you will have a great time whenever you go!

Congratulations!

We got married in July and the crowds in the parks was a nightmare and it was very HOT. But I didn't feel the heat on our wedding day as I wasn't even thinking about it. I have vowed that I would never go back in July but being that is is a special date for you I would say go for it.

We are going back soon to have a nice relaxed look around the parks as we missed so much on our wedding trip but that was due to lots of factors not just the crowds.

I think it could be nice to celebrate two "anniversaries." But, I can see how it would be nice to have one. That being said, I vote May!
