Just curious as to how common this is and what the circumstances were.

Answer not restricted to WDW restaurants.

Once and only once have I ever not left a tip. We were at a restaurant in Toronto, the service was fairly slow, not a huge deal. But we asked for the bill 4 times. Finally after 45 minutes, we estimated what the total should have been and left it on the table. Funny, the waitress managed to run after us down the street saying people walk out on her bills all the time. I wonder why?:confused3 I told her we left the money on the table and she insisted it wasn't there. We were in the bar area so some other guys took our place after we left. When I followed her back into the restaurant, the money was right there in plain view. She clearly didn't even look for the money, just saw that we left. We had guestimated pretty close. We were over by about $2. I asked for my change and left.

But never in Disney or anywhere else for that matter.

No, we have always left a tip even if the service was bad. We figure everyone can have a bad or off day. Hopefully, the person appreciates it, but you never know.

One time I left no tip. The service was horrible (not at WDW); orders all wrong, long waits, bad attitude, the check just kind of thrown at our table. I did leave a long note on the check explaining exactly why I was not leaving a tip, even though I normaly tip 20% for okay service.

No matter how bad the service I can't find it in me to not tip, they have to pay taxes like they got a 15% tip (I think)...Stella Blue, love the name :hippie:

No, but we've walked out of restaurants a few times... usually after waiting 15-20mns for drinks, or if the servers were standing there chatting instead of coming to take our order.

Only once. The waitress was horrible. Bad attitude and insulting. Even then, I felt a little bad about it.

I've always left a tip, albeit it can be a small one if the service is really bad. I wouldn't leave no tip- simply because they do have to pay taxes, and because when I worked as a waitress if someone didn't leave a tip (only happened a couple of times) I just assumed they forgot or were cheap, etc.. I never thought it was because of the level of service they received (in all fairness, I was a pretty good waitress). So, if I have terrible service I leave a reduced tip- not nothing.

I have left no tip before- only a few times, though, and always at a place we didn't know would be expecting one.

Several times, we have gone to new restaurants that we thought were fast food type places (where you order at the counter, pay, then pick up your food), only to find out that someone carries the food out to us and refills our drinks, etc. We almost never carry cash, so, after paying up front when we ordered, we had no means of leaving a tip :guilty: .

I've never stiffed a server at a "regular" sit down restaurant.

I answered yes but would like to add I could count the number of times I haven't left a tip on one hand. THe reason for not leaving a tip was terrible, terrible service. I am normally a generous tipper, up to 25% if the service is exceptional. If it was bad enough that I left no tip, trust me it was bad.

I could never bring myself to leave no tip....no matter how awful the service. There are still others that have to be tipped out that probably did their job.

The tip is part of the cost of the meal. If the food arrives I leave a tip.

If there's a problem, please speak with the manager, but always leave at least something. I once worked in a restaurant and I know that sometimes, it's not the server.

I left a 38 cent tip at Red Robin the other day since the waitress was too busy flirting with the cooks the whole time in eyesight of us - never brought out the appetizer we ordered or refilled our drinks nor did she bring our food to us.

However I was a jerk and wrote down why she didn't get much of a tip either.

I have left no tip twice, once at WDW and the other at an Applebees.

At Applebees we went at about 7pm on a weekday evening. The service was really slow, she did not even refill our drinks when we actually asked(twice). When she brought out the food, it was cold because it sat so long, not sure where she was the entire time as the resturant had people at about 5 tables. She also did not stop to see how our meal was. When she brought the check, she said I hope you didn't want desert because I already totaled the bill. I paid and then as she walked away from the table I told her I needed change, she gave me a dirty look. No tip for her!

At WDW it was at Mama Melroses. We had ADR's and waited about 5mins to be seated. The waiter did not come to take a drink order for about 20 mins. Then the drinks were approx 10 mins later. When he took our app order he was very rude saying "sure you will" when ever one of us ordered an item. About 15 mins latter he came back for our entre order. All 3 of us ordered and after each one he said again "sure you will" (It took approx 30 mins for us to get our food). My meal was great, but my son's steak was basically raw and he ordered well done, my wife's meal had no taste to it. When the waiter came back we expressed our concerns and his reply was "what do you expect, you are on the Dinning Plan" I asked to speak to a manager and he told me "no" He took our desert order and brought that back in about 5 mins(that was really quick) I think he wanted to get rid of us at that point. When he brought the bill he actually stated "you can leave any extra tip you want with the slip after you have signed it". On the way out I spoke with a manager about the poor service and what was said about being on the Dinning plan and also what I was told when I asked for a manger. The manager actually looked horrified by the comments that the waiter said. He told me he would have the tip removed from the sale and would speak with the waiter and most likely send him for retraining.

Only one time and it was at WDW. We were at 'Ohana in Dec., 2005 and had almost no service at all. The manager was not available to talk to us. I paid the bill for 4 of us and left no tip. I don't plan on going back to 'Ohana which I know no one at WDW cares. I had eaten at 'Ohana about 7 times before this experience.

I appreciate a person working and not on a government handout. I will almost always tip 20% to 30%. This situation at 'Ohana was very frustrating and uncalled for. It was like we didn't exist.

Only once. We were having lunch at a local place and the waiter went off duty after bringing our entrees without telling us or anyone else in the restaurant. We had to hunt down a manager just to settle our bill. There wasn't anyone to tip.

I've never had a problem at Disney, but in the "real world" I have gotten some crappy service. I make it a point to leave something tiny ~ 1 -5 cents or so ~ so they don't think I just "forgot" to leave something. I'll also either ask to speak with a manager or leave a note explaining why.

Leaving nothing makes it too easy for them to assume you forgot and not take it as a comment on the service/food/both. Leaving a miniscule amount lets them know you did NOT forget but were NOT happy.

I had a similar expirence at Red Robin. I only go to RR for their crispy chicken burger. One time our waitress was flirting with the bus boy while taking our order. When our meal came out, I ended up with chicken parm. I informed our waitress that I ordered the crispy chicken burger. Instead of fixing the problem, she called her manager to my table. I explained the situation to the manager and he spent 15 minutes trying to explain to me how good the chicken parm was and that I should just eat it. I was so ticked that I not only didn't leave a tip, I wrote a long letter to their corporate office stating that they should hire better managers.
