Sony is famous for poor solder joints. So much so i stopped buying Sony products nearly 2 decades ago. It probably does not need any parts. Probably just needs the solder joints reflowed. You just take each board, lay it on a flat table and heat it up with a heat gun. The heat gun remelts the solder and it remakes the connections. With that said, i just yesterday saw a commercial for Hhgregg that had a 50" LCD 1080p for $499... Replace it.

There are very very few companies left that make TV's. What happens is a company have their brand put on a TV.
We bought a bunch of 13 inch LCD's here at work, Dynex, Samsung and Sony are the brands on the front, but you take the back cover off, and they are the same TV. Don't remember the manufacuturers name inside, but it isn't Dynex,Samsung or Sony!

So the name on the front may not mean much anymore.

Sort of like the different between between the $2.19 cent a gallon store brand milk, and the $3.99 a gallon name brand milk, it all comes from the same place, a cow, and goes to the same processing plant, and at least at my Walmart, is even delivered by the same guy. You're extra $1.80 is buying you the name on the jug, nothing else.

Without knowing more details, there's a good chance the problem is defective capacitors. If you're going to toss it anyway, you could always try to fix it yourself if you're handy with a soldering iron. The repairman was probably quoting you to replace the whole board rather than desolder capacitors and replace them...or he'd pocket the difference. Capacitors are like 25 cents each, tops.

This! This happened to our tv, and DH fixed it himself in just a few minutes.

This is true of so many things. It is insane when people are so brand-loyal. They don't realize that the expensive product and the cheap product are often one and the same and they are paying for the name only.

My sony just died and after searching forums I was able to troubleshoot it myself. $20 dollar fix was worth it to me! Good luck either way.:thumbsup2

Google is such an incredible resource, as is Youtube. There are websites and videos that can walk you through fixing just about anything. Before trashing and replacing something, it is definitely worth spending a few minutes online to see if you can find a DIY solution. What have you got to lose? Whatever problem you are having has been had by thousands of others before you.

I fixed our old washing machine when the drain was stopped up. Found out how to remove the front panel & clean it out. Saved probably $100-150. Thanks Google!

Same with my dryer. It was super easy and cheap to fix thanks to youtube.

Dh replaced our dryer motor. Googled the trobleshoot. Ordered the motor on amazon and watched YouTube videos of the installation. All for $84.
