I have rented points on several occasions. The first time was from the famous "Weschler" family. I have always had a great experience. However with the recent changes on transfers, commercial renting, and the obvious fraud that a small number of renters have recently been victimized by, I would be very careful about who I rent from in the future, if ever!

I am just curious if these recent developments have had similar effects on other "would be renters".

I have rented points twice when I ran out of my own points and wanted a few more days at WDW. Both transactions went very well, but I was very selective when I went seeking points.

We just added on...again...so hopefully I'll have enough now. (Yeah, right!) ;) If not, then I would rent from someone again.

I doubt that we would ever rent points for ourselves, or rent points to others. We would be more likely to stay offsite using free or discounted nights from Marriott or Choice or some sort of TravelZoo special. I do like to do other things in Orlando/Florida and I use those times to do things like visit friends, or state parks or perhaps Sea World. We have 2 such weekend trips planned for '07.

Also, I know my own limitations, I would not be a good "landlord." People stand a chance to take advantage of me. We bought the points for our family/friends to use with us.

Bobbi :)

PS. Once we added on and it was at a time when they wouldn't let you bank beyond your deadline. We called Give the Kids the World and donated a weekend stay at OKW to a volunteer. It was used that way. We were not looking for a deduction, but a way to pass on something good to others.

I rent points if my family and i can't use them and before i lose them. You have to pay dues if you use them or not.

I was in the position of having to rent out some of my ponts this year, and though I hope I don't get in that situation again, I wouldn't hesitate to do so.

I also wouldn't hesitate to rent points from others, though I don't see myself doing that. And even without the recent fraud situation I would be very careful anyway. Ultimately, there is a degree of trust involved and I would only rent from someone who I had a very high comfort level with.

I have rented points out before and have never had a problem ( I am knocking on wood right now)! I haven't had to rent from anyone but don't think I would hestitate. At least 3 of my renters have come back to me to rent more points so I think I have only posted my points once and ever since people just contact me and if I have points, great!!! I have met some great disers and if not for the rent/trade board it wouldn't have been possible.

By this comment, I am not just saying that even the most seasoned of us can be victimized, but that if you rent from someone with the best intentions in the world, and Disney takes action on them as a "commercial renter" (whatever that means), it could conceivably cause an economic loss to the renter.

I don't think that the lack of adverse action on the part of Disney to the commercial renters means that they are never going to take action in the future. We just don't have enough information to know what Disney is or isn't going to do given their latest initiative to crack down on transfers, and the comments floating around about commercial renters.

The first time I stayed at DVC, I rented from an owner on ebay, none the less. It was someone who couldn't use their points that year. She was extremely helpful and had very good communication. The transaction went very smooth and we had the best time ever! So much so we decided to buy DVC.
I had to rent out our first years points, because we had other vacation plans already in place. I transferred some points and rented out the others to two different parties. Everything went really smooth. One of the renters emailed me after his trip, thanked me, and told me to let him know if I had extra points again.
I don't plan on renting out my points again, but it is nice to know that I can. I hope this doesn't change.
I understand why MS doesn't allow the renters to contact them, but I know that it made me feel more comfortable that I could call and confirm my ressie when I first rented from someone.
