I'm wondering what others think about Cinncinati chili. DS bought some frozen Skyline chili on a trip through Cinncinati, and I had some last night. It's not the same as having it fresh, but it sure was good anyway.

If you've never had the stuff, you should know that it's made with an eclectic batch of spices. I know nutmeg and cinnamon are in there somewhere, plus chocolate, I think. It's usually served over spaghetti, and topped with a massive amount of shredded cheddar cheese.

It's pretty good, but a little too thin for my tastes. I prefer a thicker, meatier chili. :)

bob's post makes me wonder if there is a standard for cincinnati chili. the famous chili place around here makes a good cincinnati chili, but it is pretty meaty.

I don't know, actually. I know that every time I've had Skyline chili, it's been more like a thicker meat sauce, especially since it's served over spaghetti.

Actually, that might be my issue with Cincinnati chili -- my bias against anything but a good tomato sauce going over pasta. :p :p

My fiance is from Cincy and of course LOVES Skyline. Luckily we can buy it here in Florida frozen but it isn't quite as good! My favorite is a five-way. It is definitely unique!

Funny thing happened last weekend while at WDW. We had lunch at Alfredo's (Italy, Epcot) and I had lasagna. Well it's meat sauce tasted just like skyline! With the noodles and cheese it was like eating skyline only in a different form! I couldn't believe it. So all you Cincy chili lovers, try some lasagna at Alfredo's ...yum!

Catsrule - Cinncinati has tons of chili parlors, including quite a few chains. I've had chili at Gold Star, Skyline and Camp Washington (I think that's the name). I preferred Skyline; do you have a favorite?

I've had chili at all those places also. Skyline is the best. We have also made our own Skyline, which is pretty good. We have also made Skyline chili using deer meat, not as good, although much healthier.

Skyline chili and graeter's ice cream. A meal made in heaven. Love skyline chili!

I lived in Cinci as a child, and my favorite dinner was Chili Spaghetti. I have never had it since I left, and I wonder if I would still love it as much now.

I LOVE Skyline Chili!!! Did you know you can order the stuff online? Haven't tried it, but might be better than the 3-hour drive!

I am addicted to Skyline Chili. We eat there every Tuesday at lunchtime and have for years. In fact, I show up at our local Skyline so often that I don't even have to place my order anymore. They just bring me a 4-way bean and a diet Pepsi.

Some time back, Skyline Chili started the "Ambassador Club" program for frequent visitors to the restaurant. Every 10th meal is free. And after you filled up 5 cards, you became a member of the Ambassador Club. You chili is served on a special (larger) plate. And you get all sorts of prizes as you continue to fill cards. I'm on my 37th card. There is a guy at our local Skyline that is on his 80th card. His wife is on her 48th.

This past Saturday, I took my family to Skyline for lunch. It was the first time that all four of us were Ambassadors.

The one thing that I will say about Skyline Chili. You either love it or hate it. There aren't too many inbetweeners.

Towncrier - you sound like a man after my own heart. I attended a five day IBM class in downtown Cinncinati a few years ago, and ate 10 meals at Skyline. The best thing Cincy's downtown had going for it (back then, anyway) was the chili.

My boss raised his eyebrows when I handed him a fistful of chili receipts. But he was glad I ate cheap anyhow.
