So, if I transferred BWV points into my BLT contract, do they become BLT points, and I could use them at the 11 month window? Why wouldn't everybody who has two different resort contracts do that all the time so they would always have an 11 month window? You always read about people who have to wait until the seven month window to finish their ressie. What's the disadvantage or loophole?

I checked all four of my planned 2010 trips, and each and every one of them will require less points. I'm happy!

Let us look at an example of how DVC made Friday more available by lowering points for Friday and Saturday night stays.

2009 Example: Check in Monday and check out Saturday during Magic Season at the Wilderness Lodge Villas in a two bedroom villa.
40 points per night for Monday through Thursday and 75 points for Friday night. Total Points needed: 235

2010 Example: Check in Monday and check out Saturday during Magic Season at the Wilderness Lodge Villas in a two bedroom villa.
44 points per night for Monday through Thursday and 66 points for Friday night. Total Points needed: 242

DVC's change to make it more affordable for you stay on Friday night just cost you 7 more points in 2010. To be fair, if you check in Tuesday and checked out Sunday you would save 6 points in 2010 compared to the same stay in 2009. However, to save those six points you have to spend an additional 22 points to stay Saturday night (Total stay 264 points) instead of Monday night (Total stay 242 points) in this example. I think what she is saying is that if you transfer 50 points in because you were going to be 1-2 points short each trip. You could use those 50 points for your 2010 trip and then bank 48 points(I subtracted 2 points for the 2 points you were short)from your contract. The following year you would use 2 of the 48 points you banked and then have 46 points left over to bank for the next year. This would continue on for about 25 years depending on how many points you are short. Does this make sense?

Yes, that's exactly what I was saying. I just picked the number 50 out of the clear blue sky, it could be any number of points that you find offered for transfer on the rent/trade board. It would need to be points from your own resort though so that you'd keep the 11 month booking advantage for all of the points in your account.

We'll treat our BLT points the same, staying there 2x in three years in a 1bdrm lakeview, during magic.

For our AKV points we are one point shy of traveling every year in Adventure, so we'll have to borrow each year-1 pt, then 2pts, then 3 pts, etc.

That works, too! Keep borrowing every year for the point(s) that you're short
until you skip a day on some trip in the future to "catch up" or do a transfer in some day in the future to "restock."

No, they'd still be BWV points and that would make no sense to do. You need to find someone with BLT points to transfer to you if you need more BLT points so that you can use them at the 11 month window.

This actually dominos to whether or not I think it's worth it to buy the
annual pass now and whether it's worth it to fly to Orlando twice a year.

One thing is sure, I don't want to be at Disney with all the folks that are there on the weekends, no offense, folks.

My sentiments exactly. I avoid weekends, not just because of the higher points, but because the parks are more crowded. I fly on FF miles, so that's not a big issue for me, but I'll probably cut back to one DVC trip a year rather than two. That one trip still won't include weekends since I don't have an issue with staying in a value for a couple of days on either end. I can use my traditional timeshare to trade into something offsite for a second trip, so I may or may not still buy an AP. I can live with the changes, but that doesn't mean I have to like them.

The poll is at the top of the page. And, yes, while it is no complete DVC, it is a small sample. Educate me please because I am a beginner. Aren't you assuming then that there is never vacancy in a DVC? According to my last stay at VWL I would say there were MANY rooms vacant. Most resorts' points are sold out, correct? So that means unless folks are willing to cough at least $2500 and waitlist for "scarce" points, there are many who will stay a day less because they will simply plan based on what they have available. And many who will now spend a few day at Universal. I guess this doesn't hurt DVC but the parks more. All I would like is acknowledgment that they are not stellar at consumer relations. So, how would we go about getting a DVC wide poll done? Everyone's deed is public record?......

You'll never get a complete poll of all members. Doesn't matter anyway because it is a math problem, as I said before. Some people will stay more days, some will stay less. But the sum total of points available have not changed. Someone goes to Universal, someone else says another day at Disney that they didn't have before.

The transferred points keep their original UY but that shouldn't be a big problem if you make sure that they fit with your travel plans when you transfer them in. After that first year, it's your own points that you are transferring forward each year as the extras.

I haven't read anything about allowing more than one transfer but I think it would be a wonderful change if Disney did. Even temporarily just to get people through the next couple years where their plans have been affected by the point chart change.

If they don't change the rule though, the best way to get around it is still my first suggestion to find someone with a larger number of points to transfer to you and do that. Just keep rolling forward the ones you don't need then to future years until you get to a point where you need another transfer.

Of course, the danger of having "extra" points in your account is that you find a way to use them and stay another night or two on a trip! That would be tempting for a few people, I'm sure...

Exactly. It's how I got enough points back in Dec 2007 to invite my DH's entire immediate family to come to BWV with us. I used part of our 2006 points banked into 2007, all of our 2007 points and borrowed points from 2008. The I found a transfer for the rest of the points needed. It worked very well for us and that's exactly what I'd plan to do in the future if I ever agree to another family gathering. (A long time in the future, that is... )

Getting the points was the EASY part of that trip. Doing the planning for the actual trip was like herding cats.

We generally stay one week but this year we decided to stay 2 weekends and the week to increase our time at the World during Thanksgiving.

Looking at the points chart, it appears as is the same trip in 2010 will either be the same or fewer points.

I like the change, but I can see how those who have adjusted their trip styles to be during the week when the point usage was lower will be upset to see this change.

But, for me and my family, a big thumbs up!

We usually stay a week to 10 days so I don't feel this is going to make a difference to us. We also try and plan our WDW vacations around an AP, with the last one lsting from 12/2007 - 12/008 in which we went 3 times for a total of 24 days. We are now taking a break until probably either 12/09 or beyond. I have already banked my 08 leftover points into 09. Things are just up in the air right now as my DM, age 81, has cancer and we don't know when we will be traveling for sure right now. We would like to take her and take advantage of the 4 get 3 free incentive, but we'll just have to wait and see.

We usually stay Sun-Thurs (5 nights) twice a year. So...we'll stay 5 nights once a year, bank as many points as we want to bank, and rent the rest.

We'll personally stay fewer nights, DVC will get the same number of room-nights from our account, we'll spend a lot more on ski vacations, and pay for our dues by renting.

I voted other. We recently added enough pts to get 2 one bedroom stays a year at VWL. Since this change seems like it will make our most likely stays more pts, we may consider booking a studio for at least the weekend.

We stay through the weekends, so no real change for us.
