A lot of the Brown Derby comments are because many of the entrees are priced less than those at other signature restaurants, making HBD a worse value on the DDP. In terms of food quality, Brown Derby is definitely up there, and I go there quite often (we pay OOP).
Nothing against the Brown Derby, which I enjoyed in January 2010 as part of the Fantasmic dinner package, but Jiko is twice as good and arguably one of the top 3 restaurants on property. Try the braised beef short ribs. Plus, the location, especially at night, is hard to beat. A drink before or after at Victoria Falls really adds to the evening.

I wasn't comparing it's value on DDP, I was comparing it's food quality...there is no contest in this matter, in my opinion, Brown Derby is far, far below Jiko and most other signature dining experiences.
You'll love an adult evening at the AKL. We've eaten at Jikos several time before and after our DS5. You'll find very few kids. The food is amazing, top notch! Then go check out the resort - its beautiful!

I've been to all of the signatures (not counting CRT, since the food looks like 1-credit quality) several times, and the thing with all of them is that none of them are always amazing. They change their menus quite often, and unfortunately not every dish is equal to each other. IMO, the food experience largely depends on what dish you order, and I would definitely say at times I've had better food at HBD than at Narcoossee's, Citricos, Artist Point, Yachtsman, Flying Fish, and Jiko.
In the end, I did vote for Jiko because some of the dishes are standouts, but I honestly can't say I've enjoyed any signature restaurant's food (maybe California Grill) significantly more than Derby. Jiko service has also been more spotty for us than HBD's.
To add: In terms of food, I could happily stick up for Brown Derby. I personally think it deserves its status as a signature restaurant based on the food and service, and I enjoy having lunch there if I would be in DHS anyway.
However, the atmosphere in any theme park restaurant would be less ideal for 2 adults than a resort signature restaurant. Jiko is definitely a great option for adults; it's quieter and more romantic than HBD (and most of the other signatures), and less of the surrounding guests will be in their casual theme park attire.
Easy vote, Jiko. We like BD, but it doesn't even come in a close second, imo. And it also has nothing to do with value on the DP. Jiko is all around fantastic.
I agree. They're not even in the same league. We go to all the Signatures and Brown Derby would easily rank as last with Jiko maybe third (behind Flying Fish and Artist Point).
