We have had 7 snow days in Buffalo, NY area, we have to make up 4 of those 7! So far we have to now report on the Monday after Easter (we will be flying back from FL that day so my dd won't be there), a conference day that we had scheduled off, a half day in June is now a full day and an extra day in June! Booo... Our kids are on break all this coming week... I wish they would have tacked one on there... I don't like them messing w/ the end of the year! :(

Kids in many of the Chicago area schools, including suburbs, will have graduation and the last day of school moved to a later date to make up for lost days in December and January. For us it was due to the cold weather more than to the snow. They won't shorten the spring breaks. Those are almost sacred. :scared1:

Here in Alberta kids go to school regardless of the weather. It is up to the parents to send them to school or not.

wow - that is seriously hardcore! I find it so interesting to see how different school districts handle the winters. Here in Maryland, we have gotten to be more sissypants and they are calling off school all the time.

I like the way Alberta handles it - haha! But what about the teachers there? Are they expected to be at school no matter what? I guess so! I would love to tell the teachers here that....there would be rioting at the Board of Education offices. :rotfl:

We had so many here in CT last winter that this year they preemptively shortened this year's February break (though they didn't announce it until just before the start of the school year, so a lot of people already had week long vacations scheduled, so whoops), and so we've got a few extra buffer days, but we're eating through them fast. Don't know what they'll do if we run out of days in June.

Here in MN, our days weren't for snow, they were for cold. All but one day the teachers went in. Some districts aren't even making up any of the days because they had so many built in. DD is losing two days off that had been teacher professional days since the teachers already worked four "extra" days. My DH lost a conference day and one record keeping day (where he was already going to be working) and those are spring break adjacent, but not part of the week off.

Our district (in MA) won't take away breaks due to teacher contracts, but we are going until the end of June instead :/

You must not have a lot of hilly, curvy, snow/ice covered roads for the buses to navigate?? :confused3 There is no way buses could make most of the roads in our area and it's a large city district (whole county) with suburbs.

Safety is first here.

Actually we have a lot of snow & ice. There were many days the buses did not run. Like I said the school was never closed, it was up to the parents if they wanted to send their kids to school or not.

My kids are homeschooled...so they get no snow days! lol

Out of the 2 school systems in our area, here is the breakdown:
First school lost Presidents Day, Kentucky Derby Oaks Day, Good Friday and 2 days add on to the end.
Second School lost Presidents Day and Spring Break at the end of March

I lost track of how many snow/cold days we have had. Right now our spring break isn't affected (last wk of March) and we still plan to end on-time. School was supposed to be off this past Friday but that day off was cancelled. Also during the last snow go-around schools around here started doing "Blizzard Bags" so kids could do school work at home.

Well, we live in Texas and have only one day of school cancelled so far (due to ice - not snow). The kids have to make it up on Monday (President's Day). It was that or add another day to the end of the year. We only get ice days about every three years so they don't typically build any "snow" days into their schedule.

I voted other. We are in SE Tennessee and have used 7 days so far. I believe we have 7 built-in snow days, so we are ok as of now! Our spring break is the week before Easter.

Here in Ohio my DD's district has missed 8 days (3 over the allotted 5). According to the school, the state is working on extending the number of calamity days this year to 8 (I think there is a vote on it coming up). Hopefully that will happen and we will break even for the year!

The other thing the school is playing around with is coming up with some "learn from home" program where the kids can get credit for a school day if they do whatever activities they decide on online. No details on that, but hopefully we won't lose any of spring break or summer!! Either way, our travel plans are happening. :upsidedow

Denver-Metro area hasn't had any snow days so far as far as I know (don't have kids and don't go to school, but my mom's a teacher and I listen to the radio). Our snow melts fast and all of our severe cold weather has been on the weekends

My kids' spring break was from March 28-April 7, they lost the 28th of March and the 7th of April. We're in Kentucky. They still have a full week and we are still going to Disney :)

In NJ and we are losing 4 days from our Easter break. Now we will have Good Friday and Easter Monday only. We have had 7 snow says and only 3 built in. Plus we go until June 25!

State of Maryland, by law, does not allow schools to be open on Good Friday or Easter Monday.

Hi I voted April. I am in Central CT and we have had 7 snow days. They build 5 into the end of the year but then take the rest from our April vacation. As of right now we have the Wednesday and Thursday before Good Friday off.

We do get this whole week coming up and it is stupid. I wish they would decrease the February vacation.

I voted May. We have 3 snow days built in but used 4 days. Our Memorial Day weekend includes 3 extra days off, giving our kids an extended holiday weekend IF we do not use any snow days. Well, that was the first to go. Now our kids just get that Monday, Memorial Day off. We will also lose 1 of our Spring break days in April to make up the 4th day. Our school ends on June 27th (very late) so before tacking on additional days at the end of school, we'd just keep losing Spring break days. We are off all this coming week for winter break. I was a little surprised that the school didn't take the 4th day from there.
