Poll: Akershus Princesses

Should Akershus drop the princesses & go back to being a regular restaurant?

  • I wish Akershus would drop the princesses and go back to being a regular restaurant.

  • I want Akershus to continue to have the princesses at all meals.

  • Other (please post your "other" in a reply).

I also think the best option would be to leave either dinner or lunch princess-less, for those who just enjoy the restaurant for it's food. But like someone else said, Disney is doing what's best for it's bottom line.

I don't think this board is representative of potential Akershus guests. It seems to me that DISers on average visit WDW more often than the average American, and DISers who read the restaurant board enjoy dining at WDW more than the average WDW guest. I think that the percentage of people on this board who liked Akershus the way it was, is going to be greater than the percentage of average WDW guests who feel the same way. Bottom line is that the restaurant is busier at all meals than it was before princesses, so Disney has no incentive to change it back.

Dinner Princess free is the best one, then we can sit done enjoy a gorgeous meal in lovely surroundings with a beer or two after a fab day at WDW :)

We did the dinner the day before Thanksgiving, I was not impressed. The princesses were the best part of the meal. The food was not good at all.

I would like to be able to eat there without the Princesses.

But I love seeing all the sweeties in their little dresses and wouldn't want to steal their joy.

So, I'm going with the others who say, "Just give me one meal."

But I doubt it'll change, since they seem to be doing a bang-up business with the Princess thing.

The food is excellent ,some of the best in WDW, but again its the age old problem mentioned in so many threads - those not liking the food are the ones to start with who would never have gone had it not been for the princesses. I think that a Princess breakfast is the best option and then the restaurant would be available for lovers of good healthy food for lunch and dinner.
It was interesting to read 2 articles yesterday where Akershus came out with a 9 out of 10 yesterday and 8 1/2 because it is consistently good. Prior to the princesses when we all went for the food there was barely ever a complaint - thats because people went for food that appealed to them, and no other reason.

In looking over the "Other" choices, it seems that they are almost all saying that the princesses should be scaled back to one or at most two meals, so that either dinner or lunch and dinner are both normal (princess-free) meals.

Putting these others together with the "drop the princesses" (assuming that the "drop the princess" people would be happy with one or two princess-free meals), the current count then is about 60% for having at least one princess-free meal and about 40% for keeping the princesses at all meals.

We fortunately tried Akerhaus in December of '04 when vacationing with friends. It immediately became one of our preferred restaurants and we, as a rule, don't find Disney restaurants impressive. We've better restaurants in Philadelphia.

Unfortunately we didn't know about the princess invasion when we went in June...we were mystified that there was no seating since we'd no clue and the CM didn't mention the change. While disappointed, I'm glad they were full since we'd have been annoyed to learn at the time the reason...we just thought people figured out it was good food. :confused3

I'm only on this forum now to see if this experiment has died yet. Sadly, it hasn't. Why don't they put this someplace else...like China where we don't like the food. pirate:

I voted other feeling they need at least 1 meal here without princesses. Yes the food was different but I enjoyed trying a little of this and that. Some here have said that more the better to fullfill the need for a princess meal. In that case lets just make all sit down dinners a princess meal to meet demands and fill the coffers. Mmmm could everyone survice on only counter meals? Princess counter meals maybe? :rotfl2:

I voted "other". We enjoyed the food, love the princesses but know not everybody loves character meals so give them back what they want. I am puzzled at how angry some people get over the addition of princesses however. If they (the princesses and their patrons) help keep the restaurant in the black and therefore open and running and the menu has been changed back to its orignal Norweigan fame, then isn't that worth something? I guess I don't see what is so terribly offensive about the princess thing, its WDW after all so you kind of have to expect it to be different than other restaurants at other locales.

I think people are mad because the princesses were just randomly dumped into Epcot and Akershus. The princesses aren't Norwegian... why are they in that pavilion? It's kind of taking away the original purpose of the WS to just "Disney-fy" it and add something completely irrelevant to what was once a unique restaurant.

Plus, those of us without kids don't mind a few character meals here and there, but it's not always the most pleasant and sedate of atmospheres.

I understand for the most part because so many people really loved this restaurant for the atmosphere and the food and take it personally when their favorite place to eat goes under a huge change. I didn't find the atmosphere too crazy. We did lunch, it was certainly packed but I noticed how many people were there without kids. The princesses just kind of quietly went from table to table. Compared to other character buffets I have eaten at this was certainly the most low key. We enjoyed the food tremendously, in fact even with 9 yo dd we went for the food. My stepdad is half Norweigan and wanted to taste some of the dishes he remembered his grandmother making and we also try a different cuisine during each Epcot visit. We will be back, my 11 yo son is certainly not into the princesses but he enjoyed that lamb and wants more!

I guess I just don't see it as a random dumping of characters since it is at WDW and that Disney knew if anything could get that restaurant profitable and busy it was some characters. I think people could still go and enjoy the food and believe me those princesses are on a tight schedule and won't spend anytime bugging anybody who isn't interested.

I am still all for keeping one meal characterless and I hope they keep the menu the same for good.

My "Other" response...

I wish it was princesses for breakfast and regular for lunch and dinner. That way it is the best of both worlds! Just me though ;)
The same reason I voted for other. Princess breakfast - regular lunch and dinner. CRT has a good way of doing it.

Uh oh, the princesses are winning. Release the Kraken!

Not really, as nearly all of the Other voters want at least one princess-free meal. Give the Kraken a cookie for now.

So what's "other"? Oh I know: "feed the little girls in Alice costumes rice cream and lefse until they run out screaming."

As Im sure you have read, it stated - please state other in a reply. Most of those replies refer to an 'in between' solution having the princesses at one or more meal. Hope that makes it clear for you. :flower:

I was aiming for laughs, since I was deathly afraid this thread was getting too serious.

I wanted to eat at Akershus last week while we were at WDW because we are going to Scandinavia next summer. I had hoped to get DSs 8 and 10 to try the food. When DSs read in a guidebook that it was a princess character meal, they refused to go. DH didn't want to go either because he didn't want to deal with a crowded character meal. Not wanting to dine by myself, we went ate at the German restaurant instead.

I voted to drop the princesses but I'd be happy to see one meal not include the princesses.

I'm not happy that any of these restaurants are being taken over by princesses. ;)

I voted for the first option, but of course I have no problem with the Princess breakfast continuing. Just give us back lunch and/or dinner.
