POLITICAL: Was this just a coincidence

Early this month, the New Republic, one of the nation's most respected political magazines, reported that Pakistan and the US were coordinating the capture of a high value al qaeda target.

It was indicated that the US said the best time for such a capture would be July 26 through the 29, the week of the Democratic National Convention. When I read this story I didn't believe it. I figure the Bush administration deep down wants to avoid another terrorist attack. If they know enough about where targets are that they could time their capture, I thought they'd go ahead and capture them. Maybe I'm naive.

Today there is a CNN breaking news story that "Security forces have captured a high-level al Qaeda operative in a raid in central Pakistan, Interior Minister Faisal Saleh Hayat said."
Apparently they caught the guy a few days back but waited until today to announce it.

So what do you all think? Is this a coincidence or did they ask Pakistan to try to drown out Kerry's message tonight?

Realistically, anything short of capturing Osama Bin Laden isn't likely to put a dent in the news cycle. The Bush administration knows this as well as anyone. Ghailani is hardly well known among the US public.

Don't get me wrong, I'm sure the administration has put pressure on Pakistan to get some of these guys before the election. But I doubt there's any plan to do it on specific days or even target months. Just my two cents.

Who knows? But it is highly suspect isn't it, given that the article mentioned these specific dates? Oddly enough it is getting little coverage.......they are way too busy having all the bobble heads spew commentary on the convention on and on and on like a very bad case of the flu.

ooo ooo ooo I am ever so grateful that all these wonderful and wise people are there to explain to me what I just saw with my own eyes. My goodness gracious, were it not for their thoughtful analysis, I might not understand what all the grown ups were saying.
