Political Slogans

Is it just me being a little too sensitive, or do others find political statements (for any party) in someone's signature a little annoying. I don't want to squash someone's freedom of speech, but I come here to laugh and to discuss DVC and Disney. I'm certainly not going to be persuaded one way or the other by political quotes that are likely taken out of context or misquoted. I have come to find that the members on this board are very well informed and come to their opinions after much deliberation and research. IMHO, the political jabs don't belong on these boards.

I have a great cure for that. Shut them off! We have dial-up so if I can get rid of anything extra, I do. OK, so with it turned off I don't know which resorts people have stayed at for what years, and I cannot see their political choices or whatever, but quite honestly, I only care about what they have to say, not the other stuff. And look at all the bandwidth I'm saving! ::yes::

I don't like them either, so I just turn the signatures off. Since I have to use dial up service at home, turning off signatures also makes the threads load faster.

In case you don't know how to turn signatures off -

Click on the link for User CP (link is at the top of the Forum)

Click on Edit Options link

Scroll down to Thread View Options and change the signature option button from yes to no.

Best wishes -

You are most certainly entitled to your opinion. I, for one, actually appreciate the opinions of others, and I think we should all be free to express them as long as they are not hurtful to each other. Thank you for sharing yours. That being said, I don't mind the slogans, or quotes. Some of them are pretty cool, that which I don't agree with, I just don't read through....

Keep happy thoughts.....

There was a thread similar to this not too long ago. The moderators decided it was inappropriate to make actual posts regarding politics on this board, but that the Political sigs could remain. I am not sure how or why that conclusion was reached.

I was one of the "guilty" parties, but had only added my political signature because so many others had and I wanted my candidate represented as well as possible. However I did decide on my own, for the exact reasons the OP of this new thread mentioned, to take out my political statement and concentrate on DVC when I am here.

I figure there's plenty of places to discuss politics and no one was going to be converted to either side by someone's signature. And I 100% agree that these boards are for fun and Disney/DVC issues, not politics. But clearly that was an individual decision on my part, and as long as the moderators don't have a problem with others having politics in their sigs we have to live with that. I don't like to turn off the sigs, as I like to read most of them, I just ignore the ones I don't care for. (I have a cable connection so the bandwidth thingy is not an issue)

I don't mind them, sometimes I even enjoy them. I figure if I'm crazy enough to enjoy reading about other people's vacations, a quickie peek into political inclinations is no problem. If I'm not in the mood, they are not embedded into the message, so they're easy to skip. It is interesting to me that people who all share common interests (such as Disney) can have such different views, and I love the freedom of our country that allows them. I agree that politics in not the theme here, and it would be inappropriate to have them as the subject matter.

Yikes, this message is getting almost political, so I'm done!

While I agree with you, I think the option to hide the signature is one answer.

If the current wave of political signatures grew into other types of grandstanding (well, what I consider grandstanding anyway, not to label anyone here) - i.e. sexual preference, religion etc. I would really object.

I would hope the board monitors would bring anything under control if it got out of hand. So far, I have seen no harm in the political statements - they are just not what I would prefer to see (countdowns, disney pics etc).

Yah, know what you mean. :p

I don't mind political slogans in poster's signatures because they can be turned off, (took me way too long to figure out that one) but when a thread's contents devolve from WDW Q and A to political jabs, often disguised as "humor", then its time to move it to the Community Board or bring back the Debate Board.

I'd suggest you just deal with it for a week and it'll all be over.
Yep, it's almost over. I'll be please to see the trashy dishonest adds discontinued. It'll be time for new signatures.

Yeah imagine quoting Zell Miller!!! What a joke. Sad though.:(
Senator Miller is hardly a joke. He's got a much better record than the current Democrat Presidential Candidate. What is sad is there isn't a recognition of his views, and the valid statements he made based on Senator Kerry's 20 year senate record (some of it absentee), which his campaign has tried to hide this entire campaign.::yes::

By the way, President Clinton didn't keep anyone's family safe on 9/11 either, especially when he gutted the intelligence community's resources and failed to adequately address the terrorist threats we faced.

Very sad.

Zell Miller is certainly no laughing matter. He's very scary and
does not make me laugh. I totally agree. Not funny at all.

Well now I understand your confusion DESPERATE ado. President Clinton was NOT, I repeat NOT, the President on 9/11/01. George Bush was, and had been for 10 months. Though warned that BinLaden was planning to attack he did nothing. Please stop blaming previous presidents. Your hero is going to be one soon enough!!!

ByeBye:wave2:

He had been President for less than 9 months, and the memo to which you were referring was a rehash of information that had been around for years. There was no definitive "bin Laden is about to hit us" informaton.

Oh really?

APRIL 10--Under pressure from the September 11 commission, the White House today declassified and released an intelligence digest given to President George W. Bush weeks before the 2001 terrorist attacks. The confidential President's Daily Brief (PDB) for August 6, 2001 contained a two-page section entitled "Bin Ladin Determined to Strike in US," and refers to possible hijacking attempts by Osama bin Laden disciples and the existence of about 70 FBI investigations into alleged al-Qaeda cells operating within the United States. The August 6 PDB, an excerpt from which you'll find below, was presented to Bush while he vacationed at his ranch in Crawford, Texas. The digest is prepared by the Central Intelligence Agency, an official from which briefs the president on the report's contents.

I don't know if Bush could have prevented this, but couldn't he have secured the cockpits on airliners, for God's sake? Also, could he stop saying how "safe" he has kept us?

I have no problem seeing people support who they're voting for. But when I see people with anything bashing one of the Presidential candidates, I just see that person as a negative person. I don't know why people just can't show their support for who they're voting for. So many times when I'm at work, I see people come in wearing shirts or pins. A lot of them will either say Bush or Kerry, but I've seen a couple Bush bashing ones. And they're usually so stupid, they're not even funny. One lady had a pin that said Bu****, and I just wanted to tell her how stupid it was, but obviously I couldn't do that.

President Bush is not my hero, he and the Republican agenda are just the better choice for President, direction and safety for this country and my children. The previous president left us more vulnerable, North Korea developed a nuclear weapon under his watch.

By the way, did you return the tax cut president Bush arranged for for you? If you did I admire your standing by your convictions.

Thank goodness our democracy will make a choice in about a week. Hopefully we will find out who won and who our president is before the end of December. It's probably going to be up to the lawyers and the courts. I will support the winner.

Why didn't his predicessor. Mr. Clinton?
Also, could he stop saying how "safe" he has kept us?
Are you aware of another major terrorist attack after 9/11? Seems like several have been prevented, one that was planned within 2 miles of my home.

Agreed, he's a man of integrity willing to speak out against the excessive partisianship of his destructive party.

Oh well, in about a week everyone will vote. I hope the terrorists don't try to influence the election as they did with Spain.

Signatures will probably change after election day through the process of the election going through the courts. Hopefully by the end of December we will have a President for the next 4 years.
