Political ... Kerry and meeting with N. Vietnamese delegates.

I've seen people posting about Kerry meeting with the North Vietnamese government or government delegates, and how he should be held on treason charges etc. etc.

1.) Why do you think he met with them?

Do you think he met with them to undermine our government? Do you think he was plotting some hostile take over of South Vietnam? Do you think he was trying to overthrow our government? What upsets some of you so that he met with members of the North Vietnamese government or their delegates? Do you think he met with them so they could use his image and words to destroy our POW's or other V V's?

2.) Why do you think the FBI or CIA did nothing about his meetings with the delegates, since they have files on him stating that he was meeting or had met with the delegates?

Why did our government not charge him with treason if this was something they could and would do? Why did he tell the Senate committee that he met with the North Vietnamese if that was such a horrible thing to do, something that could be Federally prosecuted?

3.) Only the US government can negotiate for peace, POW's or hostages. If anyone feels they can be a liaison, and the government doesn't have a problem with it, should that person not be allowed to try to help? What if the person is a mother, father or child?

I tried to look into a lot of this. I even had a friend download some FBI files for me, but I haven't made the 30 mile trip to get them. As long as Kerry wasn't collaborating with the enemy I don't feel there is any reason why he couldn't meet with the N. Vietnamese. Hasn't Jesse Jackson done stuff like that before? I do have a question for you Saffron, if proof came out that Kerry did commit war crimes, would you still support him? I'm not saying he did or that I have any proof. This is just hypothetical.

This is how I feel about any soldier that fought in the Vietnam War, not just Kerry. If he is ever charged and convicted of a war crime, or atrocity, I'll judge him. Same with soldiers in any war, including the Iraq war. Until then, I pass no judgement. I don't think Kerry will run for President if he gets hauled off to jail in the next few weeks for a war crime, so I think I'll be voting for him. Hypothetically speaking, what kind of proof did you have in mind?

Now, you have to clarify something for me, if you will. You said, "collaborating with the enemy". What does that mean? What do you think he could have been collaborating about? Collaborating could mean a meeting of the minds, or it could mean something sneeky, like going along with an enemy force. Which do you mean? If it's the enemy force definition of collaborating, what could he have been plotting? All just hypothetical of course.

Collaborating does cover a lot. I guess what I meant was aiding the enemy in it's fight with American soldiers through propaganda. There are rumors that the VVAW had plans to make tapes to be broadcast over Radio Hanoi to get U.S. troops to stop fighting, To me, that is collaborating with the enemy. But I never seen any proof that he was involved in any such scheme. And if he was, I don't know if that is illegal. But I will not believe rumors.

As for the war crimes thing, I said I have no proof. But I heard there is a tape of him committing such crimes. I never seen the tape and unless I do, I refuse to believe it. People will say anything to disgrace someone they do not agree with. Like someone said on another post, people have been looking into Kerry's war and afterwar activities for years. Including the FBI. If anything like this was true they would have produced the evidence years ago. In today's political atmosphere it only takes a rumor or two to make some people believe the worse. My question was only hypothetical. Hypothetically, if proof came out that Bush went around chopping innocent people's heads off and burning towns down in Alabama, I wouldn't vote for him.

Well, Kerry's photo is hanging in the Vietnamese Communist War Remnants Museum (formerly known as the “War Crimes Museum”) in Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon). The photograph is displayed in a room dedicated to foreign activists who contributed to the Communist victory in the Vietnam War and shows Kerry being greeted by Comrade Do Muoi, General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam.

So yes, I believe he should have been charged with treason.
