I wish, just this once, I could fast forward time to about mid-November.

Political ads - everywhere!!!!

I don't even pay attention to them anymore - it's instant tune-out.

I agree. Most of them are pretty nasty. On both sides. I don't think they sway that many people's votes either. I think people are more likely to be swayed by a good natured debate on the issues.

I heard on PBS that negative ads generate more votes.
I think that's a weird thing, IF it's true. Of course, ads
are never aimed at me because I'm never undecided about
my vote. Seems like if I were, I'd hate the negative campaigning.
It must work otherwise, why do it!?

Indiana is not "in play" so we are probably seeing fewer ads than other parts of the country. Still, I agree. I hate them and am surprised the negative ads "work".

I think most people KNOW who they are going to vote for even BEFORE the election yanking begins. So I am not really sure that the ads do anything but annoy the general public!

I hate negative ads, but there's no question they often work. That they do is probably a sad commentary on how seriously a lot of voters take their job of deciding who to vote for.

Here in North Carolina, there's no way Jesse Helms would have been elected to the senate the first time without his slimy affirmative action ads. He wasn't attractive, he wasn't a good speaker and he had said some truly off-the-wall things as a TV commentator.

Remember Willie Horton? Dukakis would have lost anyway, but I don't think the landslide would have been as deep.
