Police using youtube to catch crooks

Sounds fair to me. It's a free and legal tool to assist the police. What's wrong with that??

Cool, that took place in a town I lived in for quite a while - Franklin, Mass.

As for the question, I don't think I have any problem with it. It is a public sight. I just wonder about how many false leads they might get by doing this more often.

I see no difference with this and putting a security video on the news.

Yes you might get more false reports but you might also get a real lead that you wouldn't have gotten before.

Evidence is evidence. I'm sure the police will have to track down the original video. I don't know if they could get away with using the copy from Youtube. That's a good legal question. Also, it would help their case to use it in conjunction with other evidence or, at the very least, it could help point them towards the likely suspects.

They're shown on the television on the evening news - why not on the internet?

If it helps to catch a criminal, I'm all for it..:thumbsup2

Well the crooks themselves apparently delite in posting their own videos of themselves doing stupid and illegal stuff. They already like giving the police a hand. I think it's funny that the police jumped on that bandwagon quick!:rotfl2:
