police on property question

Ah... I love crybabies and their speeding tickets. The speed limit is the posted speed limit. I love all of the excuses....lol. Show me anywhere in the Florida Motor Vehicle statutes where you are authorized to go even 1 mile per hour over the speed limit.

For things such as shoplifting, etc..... you can be held by the business, i.e. Disney security, until the police or sheriff arrive to take custody. (at least in Florida anyways).

In Florida, if found guilty, you can be fined up to $500. There are various levels of fines also, 1-9 over, 10-14 over, etc.

Any chance of contacting the prosecutor for a plea-bargain? It does seem to be what we in The Business call a CSV (Chicken S*** Violation).

I haven't been given those details yet, given that I just got the citation a few nights back. I'm hoping for forced traffic school, so I don't get points assessed.

Are you SURE about that... the only reason I ask is back in my younger, more foolish days, I hung out with a less than good crowd. I distinctly recall one of my acquaintances of that time getting caught attempting to shoplift from a local branch of a national retailer. He was going to be held. He said, "No, I am leaving the store, keep your property," then he shrugged off security and walked out the front door of the store and off their property. By the time that happened, Orlando PD had already been contacted, and when they arrived, they said since he left, there was nothing they could do. He didn't actually remove anything from the store, so they didn't have a leg to stand on. All they could do was trespass him.

The came and detained the man until the Orange County Sheriff arrived.

It is amazing what a blue suit and a shiny badge will do to people.. lol.

I agree, drive the limit or risk getting a ticket. As to driving after drinking why would anyone endanger their life or others when you can very easily take Disney transportation or a taxi.

I know this thread has meandered all over the place...but I can give info on the Georgia shoplifting laws.

An employee of the store must witness the shoplifting....and keep that person in sight at all times....never, ever out of sight...if that person tries to leave the store then they may be detained by security until "official" police arrive.

But if the "suspect" leaves the employees sight for even one second....they can't be held because they could have put down whatever they took.

Oh....that web site lists the agency I work for....so look us up...Suwanee, Georgia....

If you all are driving above the legal speed limit, you deserve to get a ticket. Period. Dont whine about getting pulled over if you know you were speeding.
My sister once complained that her hubby was stopped and ticketed for speeding 10 miles over the limit on a busy freway..he knew he was speeding, as was almost every other car on that freeway but HE just happened to be the one who was caught. Me, I can honestly say i never speed..you can tell by the way everyone passes me while I am driving on I4 !lol

I don't have a problem with the roads at WDW being patroled for speeding but I question pulling people over for a coupled of miles over the limit. I know that there are many places around the Chicago area where the towns have the radar machines stationed that show the cars how fast they are traveling when you pass them. They almost never match the speed that is indicated on my speedometer. Sometimes indicating slower and sometimes faster and that is while driving a vehical that I am familiar with. Now if you add an unfamiliar vehical to the scenario it is tough to judge a few miles an hour differance. You may be traveling at 25 MPH according to the speedometer and there may be a radar gun that is not calabrated exactly and all of a sudden you are 5 MPH over the limit. Having done alot of driving on the roads of WDW I know that something needs to be done about the way some people drive on them but it may be better focused on the drivers really abusing the speed limit. It also seems like there are not many places to pull over in some of the areas and having a car partially blocking a lane of traffic could be more dangerous than the driver going 30 in a 25 zone. :confused3

If the difference is minimal, you can request a calibration report on their radars.

DH and I just returned from WDW (we were there 10/29 to 11/8). We did notice a lot of Orange County Sheriff vehicles on the roads but only noticed one that looked like a speed trap (on the road to the Contemporary). Twice we saw vehicles pulled over apparently getting tickets (one on Buena Vista Drive near OKW, the other at the STOLport just before the entrance to WL). I saw 2 sheriff's vehicles enter the service road at the Boardwalk (the road that parallels the canal to MGM) with their lights flashing, but never knew why. It does seem that there's more of a police presence than I can remember seeing in previous trips.
