A police officer was killed in the line of duty in the neighboring county night before last. I heard it on the radio yesterday after I had dropped my kids off at daycare. I was headed to work, but had to go home to give my hubby a hug and an extra special "be careful today." He TOTALLY didn't understand why I had to come home to do that or why I started crying when I told him why.

(Oh, yes, he's a police officer, too!) The last time I was that freaked out about his safety was the bond hearing for the defendant who had my husband pinned on the ground, with his hand on his gun, who had been high on cocaine.

Everyone, please just say a little prayer for the officer's family. He was an 11 year veteran on the force and was shot and killed serving a search warrant on a drug dealer's house. He served in the Air Force before joining law enforcement. He left a wife and three children behind (13, 7, and 5).

5 drug-dealing thugs with guns have been charged with murder.

I overheard some of the teachers talking about this yesterday, but didn't get any details. I'll have to check the paper online.

How awful!

Another cop's wife checking in.

I HATE his job. We try to take it one day at a time but it really, really bites. My DH's good friend was murdered while stopped at a light three blocks from the station in his cruiser. The punk who shot him in the head three times did it because he was angry that another cop had told him to leave an area where he had been fighting. He saw Brian a few blocks away and killed a husband and father of two. There is a special place in Hell for these people.

Sad to say another name will be added to the wall for May 15th.
