I wonder if that's the difference between those who actually follow the rules and those who say they follow the rules but always think they have a good explanation for when they are caught not following the rules?
The ones who always follow the rules never get nervous when there's a policeman around.
Hmm...something for me to think about. Juicy!
Not true for me. Might be true for others.
I get nervous, because I know very well that weird things could be going on with your car that you don't know about.
First time I was pulled over, he noticed me because he didn't think I had a front license plate, and then I was so incredibly nervous that he thought I was impaired.
It was my dad's car, I was borrowing it while in college two states away. My dad had had some issues with driving, and had managed to cause the front plate to be entirely bent under the car. Not sure how he did that, but once I stopped stuttering and stammering and shaking from nervousness and fear (it was after 2am, I was alone, it was cold and I was wearing light clothes b/c I'd been working, at the bar I worked at, where it was warm inside) and he realized I wasn't on something, it was simple enough to go and pull the plate out from under the car.
So anything could be going on with the car, or your speedometer could suddenly have gotten messed up, etc etc.
When I worked in tv news, our crew cars were big white Chevy Caprices. They looked exactly like unmarked cop cars (and with the NYP press plates people assumed we were cops). I LOVED driving those cars because traffic ould part like the red sea for me wherever I went. If somebody slow was in front of me, all I had to do was pick up my two-way radio and pretend to talk into it and they would move out of my way super fast.
We drive a silver Grand Marquis. We get one of two responses as we drive along. Either people get REALLY aggressive and rude, thinking that I'm an old-lady driver, or they go really slow, thinking I'm a cop.
I was going the posted speed limit around a tricky offramp I take to get home (and I think they have it listed at too high a speed, honestly), and this big pickup with military stickers all over it was incredibly aggressive, passing me on the right just before that lane ended, and even flipped me off WHILE honking, a few weeks ago...that's how some people like to treat what they perceive to be the elderly (or the cops I suppose)...I thought I expected more from the profession the person seemed to be stating he was in from all the stickers, but I guess not...
