I was looking to get my husband a set. I am looking at Dicks Sporting Goods online and they have sets for $24.99 and then I look at Sports Authority and they are like $74.99- $99.99. What a difference!!! LOL.

Can anyone give me the low down on poker chips? He has those cheapie plastic ones so I was looking for a nicer set but did not know what the difference on price was. Also, any other places I could look?

Thanks. :)

See if they have a weight per chip this is the biggest difference the clay ones will be colored (ALL the way through) better or painted (surface).

Get at least 11.5 grams chips. Unless Dick's have changed their supplier, the chips from there are not that great. Check poker sites online and also on eBay. Heavier the better. Easier to do chip tricks with, like chip shuffles :)

If you can afford it, try to Paulson cane and hat chips. These are like the ones used in casinos. They are not plastic. They have a better feel to them, stack nicer (the cheap ones are slippery and don't stack well at all) and over all sound better. I got mine off eBay - they are from a casino in WA that went out of business, but there are also new sets on eBay (think they have James Bond on them.) It really makes a difference. Also try to get KEM cards. They are expensive, but can last forever.
