slightly OT but...

Has anyone checked out that Pokemon GO game? If so, do you know how to deletes Beacon??

We live on a dead end street that leads to forest area, that has apparently become a 'gym' of sorts, or there is some sort of beacon or goal that can be had at our house.
Baaad idea with small kids, when random people just start hanging around, on foot, bike, and car. I've kicked a few people off the street (basically, 'hey, how can I help you, you look lost. Ohh, Pokemon? Well how about you Pokemon Go somewhere else and leave this dead end street alone?")

I mean, I know it's a public street, but the property is not and we are really worried about someone flying down the street not realizing it's a dead end or that children play on the street. It's been quite for 2 yrs since we moved in, no reason to think we can't let our kids to play basketball on the cul de sac..

But, if you know how to delete these things, I'd greatly appreciate the insight!

The best option will be to submit a request to Niantic (the creator of the game) and explain the situation.
Understand that, as you said, this is a public location and as long as they aren't trespassing there's really not much you can do.

In order to submit the request, you will need to provide the name of the stop (which can be found in the game) and the address.
Because of sheer number of people playing this game, it will probably take a decent amount of time to hear anything back if you do at all.

One other thing to consider is that many of the Pokestops are portals in the original Niantic game, Ingress. For it to make it over to the new game, you have probably had people visiting this portal for a while.

Hmm that's interesting. The area has been quite since we moved in, but perhaps since not so many people played before we didn't really take notice of any extended traffic stopping by. Onesies and twosies here and there yea, but nothing like what we're getting now.

Thanks for the link, I'll def send them a message. I'll have to get into the game to find the location name tho. Lol

We looked at it just to see what all the hype was about but that's about as far as we got.

You can send them a message and explain it, but who knows what they will say.

Honestly, it's a public street. As long as they are not actually on your property you don't have a right to "chase them off the street". They are just playing a game.

It is kind of odd that you have one like that which isn't at a monument or something (like the end of your street isn't considered a public park or anything is it?)

All of our locations are parks, memorials, things or public buildings Lots of churches and fire department buildings things like that.

There are a few random ones... like the memorial on the bike trail that the only way to get to is on the bike trail, but they are still all public property.

Now yes some of them are next to houses I'm sure the people that live in the house next to the libary don't like that the library, the memorial in front of the church across the street in one corner, and the armory across the street in the other corner are all stops as they must have MUCH more traffic around their house now. However they are all public buildings.

I would be honest I'm not sure I would have answered you about what I was doing and definitely wouldn't have left if I was on the sidewalk or side of the road and not on your property.

So the OP kids can play on the public road but others can not? I would have stayed much longer if you tried to chase me off a public street.

My 4 kids ages 13, 14, 22, and 24 all play. They even go out at 5AM to to catch night pokemon.

First, for players to find Pokemon they have to drive slow. Walking works best. Second the app has a street map of the area. This information should help calm your irrational fears of a Pokemon player speeding towards a dead end while your children play in the street.

This game is great for getting folks out. Many of my friends age 40 and up also play and are getting in more steps per day. Also, you are getting to meet other players. There are 4 main teams on our area and they are randomly meeting in person while at local Pokestops.

In our area they are in all the neighborhoods, on nearly every street, parks, mall, etc. I mean everywhere. This game has launched worldwide and the purpose is to get people outside.

Their servers are maxed out so that is their primary focus. I would assume they recieve more request to add locations than remove. If you want folks to leave your "public" street faster, point them in the correct direction. The "gym" at our local mall the players sit for hours. According to my son, the server pulled the locations from a previous game so these locations existed for a while. My guess is the other game was not as popular or was inactive.

Irrational? Ha, cuz that actually happened today, and it wasn't the first time either. Someone came flying down the street staring at their phone, and one of the neighbor kids was out playing..

THAT'S my heartache with the whole thing. Not that they can't be on public property and we can, but that we ALL should be able to be on public land and have a reasonable expectation of safety. Don't drive down the street at an excessive speed with your face buried in your phone.

Aside from the fact that people shouldn't be loitering on private property, that's a whole other issue, and yes, they have been loitering on our private property.
