Hi. Maybe I am not going back far enough but looking to see when Disney closed, what happened to the people that had points expiring and using the month that it closed. Did they extend their points?

Thank you.

Disney closed resorts around March 22nd. DVCM allowed anyone with banked 2018 points from April, June, Aug, Sept, and Oct UY to have an extension for use through November 30th,

It appears they didn’t actually extend the owners points, but gave them some of their own to be used as owners had to call to use once there points actually expired.

Anyone with 2019 UY points beyond the banking window for trips scheduled during closures were given the ability to bank late, In most cases, points not used during the closure were not given the extensions.

AUL owners were allowed to extend through the end of February those banked 2018 points as well as banked 2019 points from Feb UY.

Nothing posted, but reports are that VGC owners were given the same extension as AUL.

Of course, borrowed points were returned...still are...and holding has been waived.

Those were the banked 2018 points so people were given until November 30th to use them up. As I said, DVC seems to have given members their own points to accomplish that vs banking points a second time.

If the person had 2019 points in the March trip expiring at the end of March....those would have been April UY..they were allowed to bank, even though it was beyond banking window.

If someone could not use the points by November 30th, then the option was RCI or lose them.

None of those options were required. DVCM could have stuck to all regular rules but chose to at least try to help owners without overloading the system going forward.

Thank you. I was talking about this yesterday, but couldn’t answer the question about what happened to expiring points. I appreciate your taking the time to explain it to me.

I’m new to this. I didn’t realize people have points that expire, that’s terrible! Are they unable or unwilling to sell them?

Owners get an allotment of points each UY based on what they bought.

Points are good for one year, You are allowed to bank them one year ahead and it gives you extra time to use them. You are also allowed to borrow points so you can use them a year earlier,

So, yes, every year, the points need to be used, within the terms of the program.

Owners who had already banked their points from 2018, were given extra time to use them in 2020, but normally, that is not the case.

For example, I get 775 points every year to use, If I don’t use all of them, I can extend them into a 2Nd year, but that is it.

What happened to some owners is they booked trips too close to the end of the points expiration and so when resorts closed, they were stuck It is one reason why traveling that close to the end is not always a good thing.

But, DVCM ended up making exceptions and extended points use for a few extra months. Some owners were able to travel but many did not and ended up losing them. It is the nature of a Timeshaee.

One important thing to note is that if you had banked points from 2018 but didn’t use them for a reservation during the closure then you don’t the extension on the points.

Also some have reported that even if they had a reservation during the closure but cancel themselves and booked something else they didn’t get an extension either. Don’t know if you could have called to get one anyway.

Regards

Yeah, VGC hasn't been extending. We have 62 points on the hook from 2018 Mar. Was scheduled to use at AUL this month before travel ban in California and unable to use at home VGC for nearly 1yr now :(

Interesting because There have been a few reports that some owners, when they called, were allowed to rebook VGC points into February 2021 once VGC was announced open. It was not published though so not sure if they were lucky....but they did say they got points extended..which we know are not an owners actual points but DVD owned points,

Still, I am surprised it was not officially done since they did for AUL.
